After so many battles with the hated pigs, could space be the final frontier for the Angry Birds?

Rovio, maker of the massively popular game, said the next chapter of the Angry Birds saga would take place in space —and even prepared a teaser site for it:

"We are VERY excited to announce our next game: Angry Birds Space! It’s going to be the biggest game launch since the original Angry Birds!" Rovio said in a blog post.

It said "Angry Birds Space" is a completely new game with innovative new gameplay, but with some of the familiar Angry Birds elements ... "plus some surprises!"

Rovio said more information will be coming in early March, with March 22 as the date of the simultaneous launch on mobile gaming, animation, retail, and publishing.

"Not only is this a first for us as an integrated entertainment company, but the first time this has ever been done for a mobile game!" it said.

A teaser trailer is already out on www.angrybirds.com/space.

"One small fling for a bird, one quantum leap for birdkind," read the message.

A separate article on PC World noted Rovio announced in November that "Angry Birds" had surpassed 500 million downloads - "an impressive accomplishment for what was already the world's most popular mobile game."
