PASIG CITY, METRO MANILA – As part of National Teachers Month this September and World Teachers’ Day on October 5, the Department of Education (DepEd) started poster-making, photo, and video-making contests to honor the endeavors of Filipino teachers.
In partnership with wireless telecommunications company Smart Communications, the contests are open to elementary and high school students from both private and public schools.
These contests aim to encourage students to show their appreciation and respect towards teachers. These also aim to find creative ways in showing others the value of being a teacher and to encourage more people to contribute to social development by teaching.
“Our teachers are actually our heroes, so it is just proper that we give them the recognition they have already earned and truly deserve,” Education Secretary Armin Luistro said in a statement.
The poster-making contest is open to elementary students while the photo and video contests would be for those in high school. Each school is allowed to submit only one entry per category.
All the entries have to be submitted by September 12. The materials of the finalists will also be uploaded for public viewing and voting.
Top prize for each of the categories is P10,000, while the second prize will get P8,000. The third prize winner will get P5,000.
The teachers who will be featured in the winning entries will also get a certificate and cash prizes.
Online voting will start September 15 to September 30, with the awarding to be done on World Teachers’ Day on October 5 in Cagayan De Oro City.
