Phnom Penh (Rasmei Kampuchea Daily/ANN) - Senior Asean officials met yesterday to discuss French, Russian and British reservations over the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone (Seanfwz) Treaty.
The meeting of the executive committee of the Seanfwz Commission was chaired by Kao Kim Hourn, secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The meeting discussed how Asean "can reach a consensus on the texts of reservations proposed by France, the Russian Federation and the United Kingdom with a view to enable the signing of the protocol to the Seanfwz Treaty by the nuclear weapon states this year," a statement said.
Asean members will keep working with the nuclear states "to conclude the final step of preparations for the signing of the protocol and other related instruments of the Seanfwz Treaty as early as possible," it added.
