Visitors expecting to enjoy sun and surf at Sydney’s Bondi beach will instead be welcomed with ice, snow and wintry delights during the Bondi Bergstation winter festival.

Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach will be transformed into a winter wonderland during the 2011 Bondi Winter Festival. The usually warm and sunny summer tourist hotspot will be be home to one of Australia’s largest outdoor ice skating rinks (measuring 800m2), gourmet winter food hailing from more than 20 winter-loving countries and winter-themed performances and activities for the duration of the festival. Bondi Bergstation is one of four events included under the banner of Australia’s Alpine Winter Festivals. The three other festivals are held in Brisbane (June 9-26), Sydney (July 28-August 14) and Melbourne (August 18 - September 4).

Queensland Music Festival

The Queensland Music Festival is a state-wide music and arts festival that takes place once every two years. Over the space of 17 days, local, national and international musicians travel the state performing "every conceivable style of music." The festival is held in Brisbane and more than 20 regional and remote centers around the state. Most events are free. In 2009 the event attracted more than 148,000 spectators.

60th Melbourne International Film Festival

In the weeks after the Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF), the Sydney Film Festival and Cannes, Australia's biggest film festival will light up screens in Sydney with a very special 60th anniversary event. The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is the world’s largest showcase of new Australian cinema and regularly draws crowds in excess of 170,000 people. An exhibition of graphic art will showcase the festival's iconic posters, ephemera and artwork, visually retracing the MIFF’s 60-year history.

More than 50 venues across Sydney will highlight Australian design during the 15th edition of the two-week Sydney Design festival. The events all center around the theme of "Is old new again?" From architecture to fashion, the Sydney Design festival program includes exhibitions, seminars, installations, workshops, talks and tours. Similarly, Victoria's State of Design event is held July 20-31 and investigates how design can create sustainable development opportunities and improve living conditions.
