Unilab, RunRio hold Run United in Cebu

Unilab is targeting 5,000 runners for the Cebu leg of its Run United regional series scheduled this December 18.

The Cebu leg, which will have the 21k, 10k, 5k, 3k categories as well as a 500-meter dash for kids, is being organized by Coach Rio dela Cruz's RunRio Inc. in coordination with local organizers.

Unilab representative Lester Castillo said during a briefing this morning that Unilab Active Health, which was started last year, holds running events in line with its goal of influencing Filipino families to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle.

The Run United in Cebu is the last event in the regional series that Unilab is holding this year in six cities outside of Luzon, Castillo added.

Louella May dela Cruz-Magno, RunRio events management group head, said 21k finishers will get a medal and a shirt aside from the singlet that will be given during registration and finisher's bag that is available to all runners who complete their respective distances.

Kenneth Casquejo, one of the local organizers tapped for the event together with Sinulog Foundation executive director Ricky Ballesteros, said there will be no time cut-off for the 21k category.

The run will utilize a D-tag timing system and provides the first ever iPad automated registration in the country, said Magro, adding this will ensure that errors are avoided at the registration process.

Registration for the run will be from October 31 to December 11 at Toby's in SM City Cebu, Runnr in Ayala Center Cebu, and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) office at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

Registration fee is P500 for the 21k, P400 for the 10k, P350 for the 5k, and P200 for the 500-meter dash, which will have two age categories: 5-8 and 9-12.

Castillo promises an exciting event for runners who will get to enjoy booths offering Unilab product samples after the run.

He added that Unilab Active Health is targeting 45,000 participants for its events in 2012, which include nine completed and scheduled runs as well as one triathlon and a biking event.

Rommel Ballester of RunRio said water stations with medics will be 1.5 kilometers apart for all categories. The 21k category will have a sponge and two banana stations.

He added that marshals and traffic enforcers will be at every corner of the route to ensure the safety of runners.
