    It’s Manny via majority decision

LAS VEGAS, NV - NOVEMBER 12: Manny Pacquiao celebrates his majority decision victory against Juan Manuel Marquez …Manny Pacquiao retained his World Boxing Organization welterweight crown with a controversial majority decision over Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

As was the case in their first two bouts, this third one was close and exciting. One judge had it a 114-all draw, while two others had it 115-113 and 116-112 for Pacquiao.

But if Marquez was disappointed in the results of the first two fights of this epic trilogy, which ended in a draw and a split decision for Pacquiao, he is sure to be seething with anger by the outcome of this one. The Mexican counter-punched beautifully in the middle rounds and gave Pacquiao everything he could handle towards the end.

Before the fight, many were wondering if Marquez, a natural lightweight, had bitten off more than he could chew by agreeing to a catchweight of 144 pounds. But El Dinamita moved well despite the added poundage, although Pacquiao was still clearly the faster fighter.

There were too many close rounds in this bout, and for once Pacquiao was unable to deck his great rival. Marquez clearly won the second, fifth and seventh rounds, and you could have made a case for his winning at least four other rounds well.

Pacquiao rocked Marquez a few times in the early rounds and the championship rounds, but each time was unable to finish off the Mexican, who was never in danger of going down. He was often frustrated by Marquez's counter-punching, and had trouble finding his rhythm.

When the verdict was announced, Marquez and his entourage quickly left the ring, with his fans booing. Asked if he was willing to fight Marquez a fourth time, Pacquiao didn't close the door.

"I can fight any fighter, as long as there's no problem with my promoter," he said. "It depends on Bob Arum."

If anything, this bout was perhaps even more inconclusive than the first two, and Part IV would certainly be welcomed by most fight fans. Thirty-six rounds were not enough to determine once and for all who is the better fighter among the two. The question is whether Marquez, who has long claimed he won the first two fights, would still agree to a fourth one after feeling he has been robbed of victory again.

The win raised Pacquiao's record to 54-3-2, but took some luster off his claim to the mythical title of best pound-for-pound boxer. It also raised questions about how he would really fare in a clash with Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who easily beat Marquez via unanimous decision and even knocked him down.

At first, I also had the reservation of Pacquiao's winning but it all answered my doubts when seeing the replay where two judges gave rationale close decision in favor of Pacquiao. Who are we to disagree when they are at ringside and have the full view of the bout unfolding. My point is, we put too much expectations of Pacquiao to finish it early and when he don't, we easily swayed and abandoned the idea of winning. They have prepared well in this third encounter as we know thus they fought it cautiously but Marquez didn't prove what should be a winner by flooring Pacquiao a bit that Manny have done in the past to him, instead just waited for Pacquiao to come forward which is of kind of boring--a lackluster bout. Manny's decking over Marquez as in their first fight that led to a controversial draw is not even a guarantee of outright win - tho some sports analysts says an error committed in the computation which should have favored Manny. It is incumbent upon the challenger to prove his mettle by a convincing win to the Judges which is then lacking in their expectations. BUT... sometimes it pains to ordinary viewers, just like me if we just rely on raw (video) details of the event that we tend to suspect some fishy things happened.....What if Pacquiao lost in points, will this not lead to an uproar of foul also been committed? Just asking.....

boxing is not just about flooring ur opponent bro. kahit ikaw pa ang aggressive pero hindi ganun ka accurate at effective, u'll lose the fight bro. bro hindi lang judges ang nasa ringside bro. ang dami EXPERT analyst s ringside bro. at ni isa saknila wala nag sabi na panalo si pacman. hindi naging boring laban ni marquez bro, bakit? ksi mas clear mga shots nya bro, mas madami sya napakita na magaganda patama kesa kay manny. yeah, lackluster bout nga sya ksi naging mabagal si manny at wala sya kombinasyon.tsik. sobra taas ng pride nteng mga pinoy. peace. opinion ko lang to bro,

At Albert. Can you give the exact statistics as to whom and how much out of those Expert analyst says that Marquez wins the fight?

Yeah ! expectations is the reason why ordinary viewers tend to criticize the victory of manny, i think the last fight was the hardest fight of pacs career. Its common in vegas, that if you wanted to won a fight from a boxing icon, you need to kneel him down or else youre gonna lose the fight, same with what happen to JMM.

Lets just say, It was all planned.

the truth is, the boxing fans were expecting too much from Pacman - and so they doubted and took into considerations of the few rounds that Marquez has out scored Pacman. it was 12 rounds not only 4 or 5. summing all the rounds Pacman won. that's the truth.

@ black : many expected pac to be great. but he was not great during the match. that is why many are disappointed. either pac didn't bring his A game (which was stupid), or JMM is just a complete foil for his style. i lean towards the latter.

Why Marquez opted not to protest if the trilogy is really true? It's because,he will be put to shame that Manny really won.The other reason is,the trilogy is only a drama,to lure Mayweather. That is not how Pacquiao fights.Marquez couldn't have $5,000,000 if he wouldn't accept the agreement from Bob Arum.. It's Bob Arum's business and Las Vegas.

Manny, careful! Do not allow the women to ruin you. They will cling to you for the MONEY!!! Careful ka lang please. Stick it out with your dear wife-Jingkee. You will always be the greatest especially because you are a prayerful religious man. Keep praying for guidance and take care of your family especially the kids and your wife!

But the truth is Manny is declared WINNER. So that's it. Loser should accepts defeat. Kahit ba 1 point lang lamang, eh talo talaga, so ano problema?
    • Leprozail  •  6 months ago
Manny and Marquez III is really a good game plan for Mayweather to accept the Manny and Mayweather fight this coming May 2012. May & May Fight on May 12/12. How it derived: del 'nn' for manny and 'weather' for mayweather. Sound interesting? The winner would be MAYWEATHER or MANNY because it is his 'WEATHER' to show up or to put mark on his FACE... ( be cool )

      akala ko si pacman matalo...
    • Maila  •  6 months ago
