MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan - The 25th year of the Singkaban Fiesta was a big celebration Monday as it was anchored on the theme, "Lalawigang Huwaran ang Pamahalaan, Tahanan ng Dakilang Lahi, Sentro ng Kasaysayan ng Bansa - Bulacan, sa Daigdig ay Ibandila!"
A special feature of this year's fiesta opening on Capitol grounds is Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado's highlighting of innovations in good governance and the rich historical and cultural customs of Bulacan.
In his speech, Sy-Alvarado said this year's celebration is simple but involves full-packed activities that promote the abundant artistic and cultural heritage of the province.
"The province had undergone calamities that cause massive damages in our infrastructure, agriculture, properties and even lives of some Bulakenyos. Still, we would like to show the world that no disaster can bring down the Bulakenyos," Alvarado said.
He said, amid the unfortunate events, there are countless blessings that the province receives and several reasons why we should be thankful to God Almighty.
Among the activities that were held are the Panaderong Bulakenyo which features pandesal which has malunggay leaves as main ingredient, presentation of the candidates of Reyna ng Bulacan, and the float parade of different institutions and companies.
The weeklong celebration also includes exhibits at the "Tatak Bulakenyo" Trade Fair which displays the products of Bulacan including sweets and delicacies, beverages, food, bags, shoes, fashion accessories, handicrafts, woodcrafts and other educational toys; Lakan Sining Exhibit which features Bulakenyos' masterpieces in visual arts; and the Dakilang Bulakenyo Series: Eusebio "Maestrong Sebio" Roque which features the contributions of Maestrong Sebio in the struggle for Philippine freedom.
