'Two killed' in SEA Games football final stampede

Two Indonesian football fans died in a stampede in Jakarta on Monday at the Southeast Asian Games final against Malaysia, according to a victim's brother and a report citing a paramedic.

"When we found the victims, they were already dead," paramedic Abdul Majid told the Detik.com news portal outside the stadium.

Local media reported that several other spectators had been taken to hospital, including a nine-year-old boy who had fallen into a coma.

The two fans wearing Indonesian red-and-white team T-shirts were reportedly taken to hospital at 8:30 pm, around 90 minutes after the stampede broke out, as thousands streamed into the game.

"As we were entering the stadium, the crowd of people pushed each other to make their way forward," Helmi, the brother of one of the victims, told AFP.

"My brother was pushed away from me and we were separated. I then heard that some people had fallen and that people had died. I rushed to check and found my brother dead."

The identity of the second victim was unknown.

Deadly stampedes at major sporting, music and religious events are common in Indonesia.

Violence at football games is also common, with disgruntled fans often throwing dangerous items onto the field after matches.

Earlier Monday, two men were arrested for burning down a ticket booth at the stadium upon learning the match had sold out, media reported.

Its different playing soccer in the Philippines, Filipino people either foreign watching from the bench together with the Filipinos are really well-systematic and trained what the rules as a watchers. They really polite and cooperatively despite of their sides is a pro-fan to the visitors. We're not comparing to them, Indonesian people hence from the beginning we always expect that some of them will make noise and associate that will come to trouble and stampede, we all know that before you know that Indo people are really fool when it comes to soccer and in the pitch. So Buti nalang d dapat maglaro sa homecourt nang Indonesia if ever maulit uli ung laro nang Pilipinas and Indonesia, cguro makakabuti na cguro kung sa Pinas gawin ung game instead in Indonesia. mahirap kc don, here in the Philippines despite of those crazy people here in our country they're really obey foreign people and they really all know that and they aware those kind of violence to death to someone.

dahil sa hindi detalyado ang report na toh, nagbasa ako ng articles sa ibang sites regarding the news. napagalaman ko na nagsimula yung stampede nung kick-off pa lang kasi yung mga gusto makapasok pinilit makapasok. then nakalagay dito narecover lang yung victims 90 minutes after magstampede. so does that mean nanood muna sila ng game habang may patay at unconscious sa tabi? that's so sick... i'm a football fan but this is just so sick...
