233 beneficiaries chip in for "We Are One" project

SINGAPORE: 233 beneficiaries from a community service association on Saturday chipped in for the "We Are One" corporate social responsibility project by LEGO, Capitaland and MediaCorp.

They included the hearing impaired, intellectually disabled, elderly, and low—income families.

Some donated two dollars each to help fellow Singaporeans affected by the economic downturn, and even the young did their best to chip in and help.

"We have money but others don’t," said nine—year—old Jia Rong. "Some don’t have food to eat, so we should help them."

Said Darryl Loh, executive director of City Harvest Community Services Association: "A lot of them actually said they want to pay S$2 to buy the bricks and make a difference in someone else’s life, it’s like they’re giving forward, and they’re very excited that once they receive, they can also give. That’s why we managed to get so many of them to come down."
