Man falls to death after setting fire to Ang Mo Kio flat; 2 kids found dead

SINGAPORE: A man is believed to have set fire to his flat on Saturday night before falling to his death.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) firefighters forced their way into the sixth floor unit of block 543, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 to tackle the blaze.

They found the man’s five—year—old son and three—year—old daughter in a bedroom.

However, the children were pronounced dead shortly after attempts to resuscitate them.

While SCDF officers were putting out the fire, the children’s father, 39—year—old Ng Chee Kiang, reportedly fell from the twelfth floor of the same block.

He sustained multiple injuries and was attended to by paramedics. He was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and pronounced dead at 12.46am Sunday morning.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Neighbours told Channel NewsAsia the unit had been harassed by loansharks.

"People say they had money problems," a neighbour explained. "I’ve seen loansharks throw paint over here. They write words like ’pay me my money’."
