    Crocodile swallows Indonesian girl

A wild crocodile swallowed a 10-year-old girl while she played in a river with her father in eastern Indonesia, the second death in the same place in two months, a local official said Friday.

The girl was swimming in Wailolong river on Thursday when the large crocodile suddenly appeared, swallowed her instantly and disappeared into the water, said Viktor Mado Waton, Lembata district head in East Nusa Tenggara province.

"They only found the girl's clothes three hours after the incident, some 200 metres (650 feet) away from the attack site," he said, adding that her family members were still trying to find the body.

"Her father saw this shocking scene as he was only five metres away in the water."

He said the father and the girl's teenage brother were hunting turtles in the river while she was playing.

A 12-year-old boy was killed and eaten by a crocodile in the same river in early December when he was playing with his friends, Waton said.

The district head said he has warned locals of the danger and he will work with police to shut the area off to prevent another incident.

The girl is still young and has a longer time to live. Why didn't the croc eat the father instead of the girl?

As a parent, I would be willing to die in place of my ow child. The government should treat such loss as their own precious and loved ones. Thus, to find ways to improve safety at the rivers.

I think we need to put up sign boards and deployment of river police officers who can patrol the crocodile infested area.

I still think that the parents should be held responsibility for this and sentenced for manslaughter...

Kill all crocs in the river. They are monster and don't deserve to live. So what if they become extinct. We want to use the river. Heck with lizard. We must emulate what the people from the US do. They kill the moslems because they think moslems are monster and don't deserve to live and they don't care if the moslems become extinct. They want to get the oil. So, Indonesian.... you should follow the American.

Sadly, commonsense is not common, i know its sad but parents are partly to be blamed, Danger zone still do not caution their kids or even keep a watchful eyes, Like in Sg, escalators accidents happen now and then etc.. RIP my condolences...

Crocodiles are predators..they act in accordance to their nature. People should not encroached on their habitat as crocodiles are fiercely protective of the area where they hunt, nest, and lived. I therefore got a shock of my life when I went to Wilkon (big consturction store outlet) in Alabang...and saw in amazement an offering for sale by an inside deli store..Crocodile meat!!! It also proudly posted the benefits of eating such meat...Aaargh! I asked the counter clerk manning the deli joint..."Are you really selling them? Isn't it a fact that crocodile eats people...and now we are eating them crocs??? Ngggaaak...no way!!!". The clerk had a laughing fit over my stunned expression. I ask you....Would you eat them?

after 2nd death, this should be prevent. catch the croc, bring it to the nearby zoo. apart killing it, it wont solve anything. solve the problem without involve any loss of life
