LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Walt Disney Co. on Friday named Ricky Strauss its president of marketing for the movie studio, ending the nearly two-year tenure of MT Carney.
Strauss will oversee global marketing over all forms of distribution for movies released under the Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Touchstone brands. Touchstone also handles movies made by Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks SKG production company.
Strauss is a 25-year movie veteran and most recently was president of Participant Media, where he oversaw marketing for such successful movies as "The Help," ''Contagion," and documentaries like "An Inconvenient Truth" and "The Cove."
Prior to Participant, Strauss was with Sony Corp.'s Columbia/TriStar Pictures for 16 years.
"With 25 years of industry experience, he brings a deep understanding of all aspects of the film business," said Disney studios chair Rich Ross in a statement.
The emphasis on experience was a marked departure from Carney, a former marketing executive whose clients included non-movie companies such as Coca-Cola, Kraft, Google and Microsoft, but who hadn't had experience in Hollywood.
