TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE—As part of health and nutrition campaign in Eastern Visayas, the National Nutrition Center’s (NNC) will start a contest for Filipinos to show their skills in preparing low-cost and healthy vegetables dishes.
According to NNC Eastern Visayas Regional Director Carina Santiago, the contest should encourage people to prepare delicious vegetable meals without having to spend more.
The contest follows the Nutrition Month theme this year, “Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-Araw Ito ay Ihain.”
The contest challenges contestants to use only five ingredients for the recipe, including seasonings and condiments.
Criteria for judging include palatability, use of ingredients, originally, visual appeal, and ease of preparation.
Santiago said that the winning entries after the cooking contest will be compiled into a book, which will be given free to recipients of the conditional cash transfer program by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Local nutrition workers will also get the book as part of their education materials.
The first prize winner will get P10,000, while the second and third place winners will get P8,000 and P6,000, respectively.
The “Master Chef Showdown” will be held on April 17 in Tacloban City in preparation for the Nutrition Month in July.
Entry forms are available at the NNC Region VIII office in Candahug in the town of Palo, Leyte.
