    • Corona suddenly leaves impeachment court

Yahoo! Southeast Asia Newsroom - Tue, May 22, 2012

Embattled Chief Justice Renato Corona has maintained he was falsely accused in his impeachment, as he lamented President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's "hatred" against him.

“I will if you will,” is the challenge the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and other organizers of Earth Hour 2012 posed to residents of the planet on Tuesday, Valentine's Day to jumpstart their preparations for the annual campaign meant to tame global warming and climate change.

The Earth Hour lead advocates urged daring individuals to make YouTube videos of their personal pledges to do simple things that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve energy, and maximize use of Earth's resources such as “recycling, to switching to energy-efficient light bulbs, turning off your mobile charger, or signing up for paperless banking.”

“From 8:30pm to 9:30pm this coming 31 March, WWF-Philippines will again stage Earth Hour to inspire Filipinos to switch off their lights and dare their friends to save planet Earth. The ‘I Will If You Will’ digital platform is the result of an alliance among WWF, Leo Burnett, and YouTube - merging the world’s biggest social video platform with the world’s largest environmental event,” the Earth Hour organizer said.

A library of ‘I Will If You Will’ challenges is hosted on Earth Hour's YouTube platform. Those who commit were also encouraged to share their ‘dares’ through social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and via email.

On the WWF Philippines Facebook page, there are various templates of the personal dares which followers can like, share, tag friends and comment upon. Among the image templates are commitments to segregate trash, plant 100 trees this year, and stop using plastic bags. Some netizens though opted to have some fun with the blank template and sort of committed to do some unusual stuff like "eat a 3lb gummyworm."

Some 1,554 cities and towns in the country joined last year's one-hour lights switch-off campaign and made the Philippines the global leader in Earth Hour participation. The environment campaign has been running since its inception five years ago in 2007.

“We call on corporations, local governments, media networks and other organizations to stand with us for this year’s switch-off. When public and private sector forces unite - then we will be able to effect change on the scale required to change the world,” said Earth Hour Philippines National Director Atty. Gia Ibay. — TJD, GMA News

"I will if you will"? Is this really a challenge? It seems like they are just giving a good excuse to me.. Why should we wait for others to start if we can start it on our own? It should be "You can because I can" A call to change that catch phrase.. please..
      • iSyndica8 3 months ago
we should change it to "We must" for the sake of our mother earth.

Yeah. That's my impression too. Why will I depend my commitments on others?
What if they won't? Then won't I too?

THIS KIND OF CELEBRATION IS UTTERLY POINTLESS !
ano un... 1 day save but 364 days destroy ?
If you want to save mother earth MAKE IT A LIFE STYLE, you dont need to wait to be recognized by the public before you do what must have already been done...

the fact that you still don't get it is reason enough for this AWARENESS campaign to continue every year...kahit isang araw na paalala lang bawat taon. Gusto mo bang araw-araw (365 days) ka nire-remind ka na gawing lifestyle ang energy conservation? Hindi, di ba? For as long as there are people who still don't get it, this awareness campaign should continue. Kahit mamatay na lahat ng generation natin.

I dont think there is any use to remind the people that they already know...
ex: do you need to remind a person when to pee or remind them to go to work everyday? NO

it is their obligation to do
the problem should not be about reminding, instead they should tackle how to motivate the people to act on their own...

I once joined a marathon (for the environment), but then I saw kung gaano kadami ang kalat ng mga participants and no one's reminding them na "hoy bawal magtapon ng plastic cups, for the environment ang marathon na ito!". I felt so bad I held my empty plastic cup hanggang finish line; and I was so disappointed, I promised myself, I will not join any of these ridiculous "for the environment" events kuno.

if i may add.....in some countries, all vehicle needs to be PROPERLY inspected to secure a permit. this happens every year. if they fail the inspection....you will not be allowed to use your car. there are security cameras and EFFICIENT law enforcers everywhere....so better put your poor car in trash.

in the Philippines.........you can secure a permit in one day.....even without a PROPER inspection. no wonder that vehicle exhaust was blowing dark smoke at my face this morning.

      1) Use sun and clothesline in drying clothes instead of washing machine's spinner
      2) Stop using plastic utensils and straws.
      3) Stop smoking or never start in the first place
      4) DON'T BE A LITTERBUG! WAG GUMAYA SA MGA TAONG NAGKAKALAT SA DAAN! EVEN CANDY WRAPPERS ALL ADD UP TO BLOCK SEWERS AND CONTRIBUTE TO FLOODS!

i dont like the idea of "i will if you will"...talk about divided responsibility.

protecting the earth is every individual's responsibility. you don't do it only when they do it. this is senseless.

anyway...this celebration is a campaign to prevent global warming. this does not mean that we will only save the earth just in this hour.

"i will if you will." not so catchy for me..sounds very dependent to others..we must not wait for others to start and influence us to save mother earth, the act must start in us encouraging others to do the same..why wait for them, right?..here in our office we apply "save energy" rule..turn off anything idle..we recycle everything that can be recycled, from used papers, bottles, cans, etc..on those catastrophes that our country had experience, i think the call for saving mother earth is a serious matter..so we must start NOW!!

Switch off for one hour from 2030-2130?
