    Australia flood crisis deepens

Australia's flood crisis deepened Saturday with the weather bureau warning of a possible catastrophe in one region, as authorities continued to search for a woman swept away by the deluge.

Heavy rainfall in the eastern states of New South Wales and Queensland have cut off thousands of people, swamping farmland and homes, and prompting rescues from surging floodwaters.

In the inland Queensland town of Charleville authorities are on alert amid fears a temporary levee will collapse as the Warrego River continues to rise.

The weather bureau's Paul Birch told the ABC the situation was "touch and go" as the water will be "rushing in quick over the levee".

"If it does that you find it tends to erode out part of the levee fairly quickly. So then it will just open up the river into town -- it's quite catastrophic," Birch said.

Mayor Mark O'Brien said hundreds of people had been evacuated from their homes but so far Charleville itself was "high and dry".

"We've just got an enormous body of water going down the river, but if this thing passes quickly people can just go straight back to the way they were before," he told the ABC.

In the town of Roma to the east, police were continuing their search for a woman missing since Friday after her vehicle was swept off the side of a road.

"A boy was rescued from the car and a woman got out of the vehicle but rescuers could not keep hold of her," police said in a statement. "The woman was swept away in fast flowing flood waters."

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, who just over a year ago was dealing with epic floods that swamped the state, sweeping away entire hamlets and flooding thousands of homes, has asked for military assistance.

In New South Wales, the State Emergency Service said more than 10,000 people were stranded by the floods.

Assistant Commissioner Andrew Edwards said while the rain was easing, the amount of flooding in the region and to the north meant that "we can expect these floods to be going on for months" in some pockets.

yup, Typical Aussies but not all. Racism is still strong here in Queensland but its up to defend yourself or talk back. They'll just shut up immediately once you hit their weak spot. But please don't curse this place. There are Filipinos here too working to make a living and helping the love ones back there in the Philippines.

my son said, learn to talk back, weak point they can only talk...I remember my son when he applied for the Australian Defence Force Academy, he was told that he cannot be accepted in the academy because he dosen't look like an Australian and he doesn't talk like an Australian and he'll put Australians in danger, my son got an Australian Passport and he passed the entrance exam including the physical tests for pilots, the only position they can offer him is a truck driver in Iraq. At the end he joined the Reserve because he can't leave his 80,000 dollar a year job in IT. he was a former lieutenant in the Philippine Army Scout Ranger 10th Company, a licensed private pilot and a graduate of Mapua Institute Of Technology , that's how they treated him because of his background and color. sad

The world has changed. There are more disasters in the world today because we are destroying the only planet we have. If we don;t take care of our planet earth I am afraid the future generation will suffer the most.

Australia should be the top most disastrous country not Philippines. Queensland and New South Wales are bigger than PH and they are almost wipped out by severe flooding.

God Does According to His Own Will

Should Christians expect God to rescue them miraculously in every case of impending disaster? The Bible record does not support such an expectation.

Of course, Jehovah God could choose to intervene directly in behalf of any of his servants. And if anyone believes that he has escaped harm by divine intervention, he should not be criticized. But when Jehovah chooses not to intervene, it should never be taken as a sign of his displeasure.

May we have the confidence that no matter what trial or situation we face, Jehovah will provide divine protection for his faithful servants, either by removing the situation, by giving us the strength to endure it or, if we die, by resurrecting us to everlasting life in his new world.โ€”Psalm 37:10, 11, 29; John 5:28, 29.
    • razil  •  Manila, National Capital Region  •  3 months ago
Additionally, the apostle Paul stated that Christians would be the object of persecution because they worship God. He said: "In fact, all those desiring to live with godly devotion in association with Christ Jesus will also be persecuted." (2 Timothy 3:12) In recent years this has proved true in a number of countries.

Therefore, God-fearing people are not exempt from the effects of violence, crime, natural disaster, or accidental death. Satan has tried to use the argument that Jehovah puts a hedge around His people so that they go through life unscathed. (Job 1:9, 10) That is not the case. We can, however, be certain that even when Jehovah does not provide miraculous deliverance from a situation, he does give his people protection.

Ang kalamidad walang pinipili malaki o maliit man na bansa pag tinamaan wala tayong magagawa, kaya hwag natin i- kompara ang nangyayari sa bawat bansa, ito ay isang wake up call lamang para maghanda tayo sa panunudya ng kalikasan dahil tayong mga tao ang umaabuso sa paraisong ginawa ng Puong Maykapal, kaya magdasal tayo, God is so good... Paise be the Lord, Amen.

Let's just pray for those who were affected by these floods.. Either aussie or filipino, im pretty sure if we are in their situation it would be hard for us to move on quickly. Considering they are Australia, a develop country, they will easily recover..
And its not nice to curse other people..
