Over the seven days prior to June 4, Google users have been searching the web for news of the so-called ‘Miami Zombie,' following a horrific attack in Florida.
An ttack in Miami on Saturday, May 27 -- and the attacker, nicknamed the "Miami Zombie" -- have prompted many on the internet to speculate on a "zombie apocalypse."
Data from Google shows that the majority of searches for the term "Miami Zombie," which experienced an increase in growth of over 5,000 percent, originated in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Also popular over the past seven days was the TV series Hatfields & McCoys -- a US cable TV show on the History Channel about the famous feuding families of the same name in the USA from 1863-91. According to reports the telecasts of all three episodes are the top-rated of all time on ad-supported basic cable.
Tennis tournament Roland Garros, also known as the French Open, was also popular. The event, one of the sport's major Grand Slam tournaments, is being held in Paris from May 27 - June 10, 2012.
The Italian term for Earthquake, "terremoto," was also a popular search following the recent earthquake that rocked the northern part of the country, while Samsung's recently released Galaxy S3 smartphone trended in eighth position.
The search terms with the most significant growth worldwide in the last seven days, as measured by Google Insights and recorded June 4, were:
