On October 31, Google+ users are reacting with both genuine and feigned outrage at the news that Disney has bought Lucasfilm, including Star Wars, for $4 billion. Halloween is also causing a buzz as users impatiently wait to go trick-or-treating.
On October 30 it was announced that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm, which was solely owned by George Lucas, giving the mouse-loving franchise the rights to the Star Wars films, of which it plans to make three more.
Many Star Wars fans are seeing the purchase of Lucasfilm as the final nail in the coffin of a once-beloved franchise, one that some thought began to lose its way with the release of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 1999.
Under the hashtag "#DeathStar," a reference to the Empire's planet-destroying creation in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Google+ users are sharing images and thoughts on the corporate takeover.
Some of the of the most popular images under #DeathStar are the Death Star re-arranged into the Disney Mickey Mouse logo posted by users such as Rowsdowr.com, and the new logo of the comedy Twitter account Death Star PR, which was altered to represent aspects of the Disney logo; images of various Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse dressed as Darth Vader are also doing the rounds on Google+.
Aside from Star Wars, Google + users are also buzzing about Halloween, sharing pictures of various creative takes on pumpkin carving, ideas for outfits and make-up advice as well as various spooky cartoon clips.
