WASHINGTON (AP) — Home improvement retailer Home Depot Inc. spent $270,000 in the first quarter to lobby the federal government on organized retail crime and other issues, according to a disclosure report.
That's up 10 percent from the $245,000 that Home Depot spent in last year's first quarter. In the fourth quarter, Home Depot spent $301,000 on lobbying.
Home Depot also lobbied the federal government on legislation involving metal theft, bills that would impose civil penalties for scrap metal recyclers that don't document the transaction with sellers of metal.
The company also lobbied the government on a national retail sales tax, tariffs on ceiling fans, labor issues, lowering credit card and bank interchange fees, increasing truck weight and safer highways, energy efficiency programs and legislation related to the prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the report filed April 20.
In the January-to-March period, Home Depot lobbied Congress and the White House, according to the report filed with the House clerk's office.
