Hyundai confirms i40 saloon launch at Barcelona Motor Show

Hyundai is to launch the i40 saloon at next week's Barcelona Motor Show, it confirmed May 6.

The Korean automaker has released the first renderings of the model, which comes hot on the heels of the i40 Estate launched at Geneva in March, promising "strong fluid lines" and a low, elongated roof line.

The coupe-like model also features large amounts of interior space, with "best-in-class" dimensions, including 1170mm of leg room.

The vehicle will be one of several on show at this month's Barcelona Motor Show -- although Barcelona is one of the smaller European auto events, it will held on the same weekend as the Spanish Grand Prix, making the city a hot destination for auto fans the weekend of May 22.

Despite the Spanish car industry being in the doldrums of late (SEAT, Spain's best-known automaker, has been very quiet regarding new unveilings at the show), organizers are trying to put a good spin on things.

Like almost every other auto show on the planet, this year's Barcelona event will place a particular emphasis on eco-friendly vehicles, with Citroën, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Reva, Smart, Seat and Volvo all set to display electric vehicles.

Visitors will also be able to take eco-friendly driving lessons around a track courtesy of Fiat, test out new automotive safety systems thanks to Volvo, and get on a bike to power one of two Scalectrix tracks installed at the event for children.

The show runs May 14-22 in Barcelona, Spain.
