YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY

Katy kisses a boy, not a girl

    Curtain-raisers:

    • Does a certain director have such a huge ego too heavy for him to carry that he’s kinda bullying everybody on the set? A Funfare DPA said that little things would make the direk blow his top and let off offensive comments like, “Kaya ako kinuha ng network para mapaganda ang mga (drama) shows dito.” Or he would put down his assistants by calling them “mga bobo kayo.” He loudly asked what the network’s highest-rating soap was so far and when told what it was, he boasted, “Hihigitan ko pa ‘yan!” Well, of course, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let’s wait and see if he’ll live up to his big words when his soap starring an “imported” actor is aired. “Si direk ‘yung binato noon ng itlog ng isang batikang director for whom he was working as an assistant,” the DPA said as her way of giving a clue. “Kasi naman, medyo mayabang siya.”

    • Fans of a band must be missing the female member who is very closely related to the vocalist. Her sudden disappearance from the band’s gigs has been the subject of speculations. Where did she go? Funfare DPA No Go has the answer: “Girlfriend na raw siya ng isang undersecretary kaya siya umalis sa banda.” Oh so she’s now singing a different tune.

    • The ABS-CBN Saturday afternoon show E-Live! will soon be “E-Dead,” to be replaced by a show of the same genre called SIS (Showbiz Inside Stories) to be hosted by Janice de Belen, Carmina Villarroel, a yet unnamed host and Ogie Diaz (remnant from the dying show). That’s the same initials of the show Janice once co-hosted with her sister Gelli de Belen on GMA where she also co-hosted the showbiz-oriented show S-Files with Joey Marquez, Richard Gomez and Paolo Bediones. Janice quit S-Files because she said she didn’t want to be making tsismis about and against her fellow actors. Is she now eating back her words? Oh well, isn’t it how the showbiz cookie crumbles?

    * * *

Before she sang I Kissed A Girl during her concert at the MOA last Sunday, Katy Perry dared the boys on the front row to take off their shirts and join her onstage. Two kids did but Katy found them much too young. That’s when members of the audience pointed to Ivan Dorschner, one-time housemate of the ABS-CBN reality-TV Pinoy Big Brother (PBB).

Egged on by the audience, Ivan reluctantly took off his shirt. Onstage, Katy asked Ivan if he was a model and he said, “Sort of!” Then, Katy pinched his nipple and kissed him near his lips. Yes, contrary to what her song says, Katy kissed a boy and what a kiss it was! It has gone viral on the YouTube.

Ivan with Tim Evans (of the US Immigration) during a chance encounter with Tim’s group at the celebrity-friendly Urth Caffé in West Hollywood (from left): Raoul Tidalgo, Baby Castro, Immigration lawyer Jemela Nettles, your columnist, STAR Hollywood correspondent Raymond de Asis Lo and Tim.

Katy’s fans reacted by tweeting comments like, “Did Katy do it to make her ex-husband Russell Brand jealous?”

Defending herself, Katy tweeted back, “BTW, I have ‘kissed’ 1 boy, picked randomly out of the audience, on the cheek as part of my show for all 125 tour dates. Simmer down now.”

I doubt if Katy’s fans have simmered down but I’m sure that Ivan has not. The boy is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame which he never got during his PBB stay and outside of it. Could it be possible that his career hasn’t taken off because of his surname which is not only hard to pronounce but also hard to remember? Or maybe because of his twisted tongue when he speaks Tagalog even if he’s half-Filipino raised in the US?

“I’m taking Tagalog lessons,” Ivan told Funfare in a text message yesterday. Asked how he felt after the kiss, Ivan said, “I was just lucky. Did I sleep well that night? Yes, I did.”

Incidentally, my friends and I bumped into Ivan (with his two friends) at the celebrity-friendly Urth Caffé on West Hollywood last January. He was then taking a long vacation with his folks in California.

Asked why his career seemed to have hit a snag, Ivan was clueless.

What I know is that he dropped his “manager” (whom Ivan introduced as his uncle) for what Ivan said was a “very personal reason.”

Joel is also in Bourne cast

    First, he lost it.

Joel Torre: No ‘small’ role for him

    Then, he regained it.

When he first auditioned for the role of a senior guard in The Bourne Legacy, Joel Torre lost to John Arcilla whose advantage was his being “more ethnic-looking.”

Just when Joel was saying, “Better luck next time,” he got a call asking him to report to the set for the two-day shoot at the MRT.

“It’s a cameo role with no dialogue pero okey na rin for the experience,” Joel told Funfare. He feels right at home on the set because he knows the movie’s official still photographer, Mary Cybulfki, who worked with Joel in Amigo, the international movie that he did last year. Cybulfki is also the still photographer of Tree Of Life, Brad Pitt’s acclaimed 2011 movie, and Surviving Evil that stars Billy Kane (the spurned suitor of Kate Winslet in Titanic).

Joel said that he has just finished work on Le Marquee, a French film starring Frank Dubois and Richard Perre, in which Joel plays a colonel.
