MANILA, Philippines - La Salle shocked erstwhile unbeaten Adamson, 70-67, in overtime to advance to the finals of the FCBL Dickies Cup held over the weekend at the at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
Hot-shooting Aracelie Abaca led La Salle with 20 points but it was Nicole Garcia who made the difference, hitting a clutch basket with only 20 ticks left as the Lady Archers beat the former UAAP champion for the first time in a long while.
In all, Garcia had 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and the same number of steal to clinch her first Dickies Underwear Player of the Game award.
The San Marcelino-based squad actually had a chance to win the game but Mary Penaranda turned the ball twice, including in the last 10 second that paved the way for La Salle's stunning win.
In despair, they Lady Falcons fouled Trisha Patas who both made her free throws for the final count of the game presented by Dickies.
With the win, La Salle arranged a face-off with WNCAA champion Lyceum on Saturday.
The Lady Pirates earned the right to face the Lady Archers following their 70-58 win over the University of Santo Tomas Tigress in the event also backed by Smart, Mang Inasal, Home Depot and Powerhouse.
The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for the Lady Falcons who battled back from a 12-point deficit in the first half and even led, 67-66, with only 35 ticks left in overtime only to lose focus in the homestretch.
France Cabinbin led Lyceum with 17 markers, including 9 in the first quarter that helped the Lady Pirates take a 34-25 lead at halftime.
