MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar C. Binayon Wednesday led the distribution of 49 land titles to 11 home owner associations under the Community Mortgage Program (CMP) of the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) in Barangay San Antonio, Agdao, Davao City.
Binay, concurrent chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), also led the awarding of titles to 20 borrowers who have fully-paid their accounts under the Unified Home Lending Program of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC).
The Vice President also announced that the National Housing Authority (NHA) Housing Board had approved P20 million housing assistance for those who were affected by typhoon Sendong last year. "Up to 200 houses will already be repaired with this amount. The NHA is also preparing to enter into an agreement with local government units for the release of the initial amount of P5 million for this project," he said.
According to the Vice President, Davao City is one of the most active local government units in implementing CMPs.
Of the P475-million budget for Region XI under the CMP, 65 percent or P300 million was allotted to Davao City benefiting 10,000 families, Binay said.
He added that in December last year, HUDCC even recognized Davao City for its "best practices" in curbing professional squatters and squatting syndicates.
The government housing czar expressed his belief that a strong partnership between national and local governments is essential in the delivery of the housing services.
HUDCC last year launched the "Pabahay Caravan" Program to ensure closer coordination between the national government and the LGU's to build their capacities to carry out local housing programs
