      Corona suddenly leaves impeachment court

Embattled Chief Justice Renato Corona has maintained he was falsely accused in his impeachment, as he lamented President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's "hatred" against him.

Women in a Maguindanao village successfully held a “sex strike," putting an end to the “rido" or clan feuds in their area.

According to a Monday report on GMA News TV’s “State of the Nation" and “Saksi," wives in the village of Dado in Maguindanao took it upon themselves to put an end to the warring in their village by threatening to withhold sex if their husbands went on with their warring.

“Sige, punta ka diyan. Ikaw bahala, hindi ka makakauwi sa bahay, hindi kita tatanggapin," said Hasna Kandatu, a resident of the village.

A week after they first dangled the threat of a “sex strike" or “tigil pagtatalik," peace started to reign in the village—the farm to market road reopened, putting an end to the village’s dependence on rations.

The idea came from a group of women engaged in a sewing business; because of the constant feuding, they would be unable to transport their products along the village road.

The threat, the report said, did not go unnoticed by the village’s men. Lengs Kupong, one of the village leaders and Hasna Kandatu’s wife, voiced out his concern that if the “rido" continues, couples may end up separating.

“Basta makagawa ka ng masama… ganito, maghihiwalay," he said in the report.

Despite the Koran’s provisions on a woman’s responsibility to a man, Imam Council of the Philippines Chairman Imam Alim Basher said that there was nothing wrong with the village women’s “strike."

“[Walang masama sa ginawa nila] kasi talagang… they were asking for maganda kabuhayan na tahimik at yun din ang hinahanap ng Islam," he said.

The first recorded “sex strike" is detailed in Lysistrata, a play written by Aristophanes which was first performed in classical Athens in 411 BC.

Lysistrata is comedy about one woman's extraordinary mission to end The Peloponnesian War by persuading the women of Greece to withhold sex from their husbands and lovers to force a negotiated peace. —Bea Cupin/MRT, GMA News

Anywhere else in the Philippines, this is known as "OUTSIDE THE KULAMBO" and Filipino wives have been using this leverage since time immemorial to get whatever they need from their husbands. In the west, I believe this is known as the 'SILENT TREATMENT" or 'COLD SHOULDER" and some say this is more effective than being directly confrontational.

It is true that sometimes the very basic solutions to our problems are just right there under our noses. And yes it is true that LOVE is the greatest, so that withdrawal of this great need is a great bargaining chip. If men are willing to kill to have it, men will also be willing not to kill to have it.

@ roger: If you claim this country as yours as well then please display empathy and compassion for those who could have been affected by the war had it continued. By the tenor of your first post, you'd rather the violence to continue than for the men to give in to their wives' demand for peace. The method was unlikely and you probably found these men's acquiescence as demeaning to your Western view of masculinity, but if it saved lives then who are you to say nay? And I wasn't being a racist when I said "Western view"; I just said it like it is.

Even if you have already been living in the Philippines for 20 years or more, it will never change the fact that your cultural background is different from ours. Thus your different view. And from what I observed from your comments, the length of your stay here did not give you a deeper understanding of our culture.

Filipino women do not push over the men. If you were as culturally aware as you claim to be then you should know that in a traditional Filipino household, the man gets the last say in the family decisions. But even if the patriarchs have the last word, they also take their wives' views on things because Filipino men hold women in high regard. That's just how our culture is in a nutshell. So don't be surprised if some (and yes even men) will defend this story. If you find these men's actions (the husbands, and those who left comments) to be shameful and stupid then you can blame your limited perception for that.

And you accusing people of taking cheap shots at your comment, and saying that they are prejudiced and racist isn't really helping. It wasn't Red or the other guys who either dropped the phrases like "Loony Luzonians", or compared the mental capacity of the villagers to stray dogs.

Like I said, if it helped promote peace, then who are you to say nay? Or maybe you just feel macho to say such because you aren't directly affected by the violence that had and could have continued to occur?

It is ok for the simple minds to object to my posts.. But I need not take a second seat to anyone. For what it is worth, I'm not some fool tourist that fell off the plane last night. For me, that happened over 20 years ago. I've drink the water, ate the food and breathed the air in More places in the Philippines than most the people posting here today. Cebu was my first home and even though I live near Angeles City, I still consider my Cousin/Cousin Cebuano.

And a final thought, I have little respect for someone's comments about me who is to Coward to even have a profile. Who are these people? Do they even live in the Philippines? Or have they turned their back on us?

Now this is the means to peace I have been writing it is up to the people to stop all the fighting in our country, this is the root that could bring peace to all Islands, this is the peace that could bring stabilization to the country which means prosperity, wealth, success, and affluence, of many different business, isn’t it much better to have peace in your own home which means in you own village then to have to worry if your children are safe, or your wife is safe and/or your home is still standing not burned down, or your live stock is still yours, isn’t it much better to wake up to the sun light and Not to the noise of Gunfire, Isn’t it wonderful to have an Open road for all to travel on and if their late not to have their families worry if they were shot or killed or robbed or kidnapped, isn’t it better to grow crops and know they are yours and will be there in the morning, Why do we have to fight, Why do we need another home land? Why do we have to fight for Prosperity when ir is all around us, and the only thing stopping us is the fighting between ourselves, Why should people call others Terrorist when they just want to Live in peace, I will tell you because a few people want to get rich off the deaths of your husbands your children, Yes senseless, it is time to tell your husbands and boyfriends, If you want me and peace in your life, then Put down your weapons and lets have a peaceful Life as it is only we the people that can give us this peace, no one else, Look at the alleged corruption in the police forces or the army, if we do not fight then they have no reason to bother anyone, Isn’t it time for peace and tranquility, we are the luckiest people in the world, we live in a place all want to see, but will not because of the fighting, and kidnapping, would you go on a vacation to a place like that? This is a tropical Paradise and we own t and control what we will do with it! Lets all awaken from this Nightmare and start the beauty of Peace throughout our country. We are the holders to the keys to our paradise to our destination
      Respectfully
