'DoQmentaries' explores tattooing among women on Sunday

This month's episode, hosted by Connie Sison, explores tattooing among women. Once solely perceived as a gruesome form of self-mutilation put on by men, tattoos have crossed over to women's territory.

Going beyond just a means for self-expression, tattooing for women has evolved into something more personal. Some women put on tattoos like they would a hair accessory or a pair of killer heels, with emphasis on having the whole look - tattoos included - go well together while remaining in style and in synch with their personalities.

And then Connie pierces deep into the industry that inks the desire of women for skin art. Lady tattoo artists from the boondocks to the city will also show off their craft.

Why would some women choose to adorn themselves with something permanent like a tattoo? Go "Skin Deep" with "DoQmentaries" tonight, 9:30, only on Q Channel 11.

Carmona launches 100 Days to Sorteo

Last Nov. 7, 2009, Carmona, Cavite Mayor Roy Loyola launched the 100-day countdown to Sorteo Festival 2010.

The launching show featured glimpses of the events that will take place during the festival proper on February 16-22, 2010. A cultural presentation explaining the history of the Sorteo was also shown and was performed by Carmona Performing Arts Group (CPAG). The semifinals for the singing contest was held and was judged by music luminaries; Mon del Rosario, Nonoy Tan and Tito Cayamanda.

Sorteo is a celebration of Carmona's roots as an agricultural haven that started way back Feb. 20, 1857. The festival features the lottery of Carmona's remaining communal lands. Under the Spanish rule, the lottery was a democratic means to create equal economic opportunity for farmers.

On the 100th day after its launch, that will fall on Feb. 16, 2010, the week-long celebration will jumpstart with Parada Sorteo, a parade of Carmona's government officials, public servants, prominent families followed by street dancing and capped with group dance competition. Other activities like Gabi ng Parangal at Sining (outstanding Carmona citizens awards), Gintong Himig - Gintong Tinig (singing contest finalists), coronation of Binibining Sorteo 2010 will be capped with the Sorteo ng Bukid, the raffle-off of the remaining communal lands.

The Sorteo festivity brings out the best of Carmona and its people. It transforms an age-old tradition into a grand celebration.
