NAIA is world's worst airport, says poll

Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 has just been voted, again, as among the world's worst airport in a reader poll.

According to travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports, NAIA tops the 2011 list of the world's least favorite when it comes to safety concerns, comfort, and facilities.

Manila's NAIA Terminal 1 also topped the list for Asia's worst in 2010.

"Forget about sleeping in this airport! You will not want to even close your eyes here! Bribery and theft exists," the travel site said, alongside contributed photos of the airport.

"Airport taxes are collected, but the money does not seem to go towards the betterment of the airport," it added.

The site said poll results are determined by the following: "site visitor votes; reviews submitted to the site over the past year; and information provided by airports regarding their facilities."

Users cited different concerns such as safety, airport staff attitude, the availability of comfortable seating, the state of the facilities, and poor access for people with long layovers.

The Guide to Sleeping in Airports also pointed out drawbacks such as the lack of luggage counters and pay-in lounges for transit passengers.

It also lamented that NAIA prohibits travelers from entering the airport premises three hours before their flight, a claim denied by a staff from the Manila International Airport office.

The site also mentioned a ceiling collapse incident earlier this year.

But if NAIA had "plus" points, it would be it's Free Public WiFi, and it's Terminal 3 being “clean” and “spacious,” although reportedly "structurally flawed."

Other "worst" airports in the list include Paris Beauvais Airport, Keflavik Airport, Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport, Kiev Airport, Frankfurt Hahn Airport, London Luton Airport, Pisa Airport, Paris CDG Airport and the Los Angeles Airport.

Singapore's Changi Airport meanwhile tops the list of the world's best with its modern amenities and wonderful restaurants. It was also praised for making the airport "fun."

10 Million Filipino OFWs.. ask them to donate.. $20/month for Airport Solution
in 1 year you can have $1 billion - $2 billion

OR.. Local.. hingi ka ng P1 kada araw sa 90 million na Pilipino
Araw araw may P90 million pesos ka..

PROBLEM SOLVED!.. Gamitin kase mga utak. hindi ung nakaw ng nakaw
      Kick back ng kick back

$3 billion is enough to overhaul NAIA 1's design..

$10 billion is enough to construct a WORLD CLASS AIRPORT

okay...pangit nga talaga ang NAIA T1 but can this survey tell us that those who voted have really gone around Asia? Eh yung airport ng Hanoi is mas magulo kesa sa T1 natin ah. Eh di ba Asia un? Mas madami pa ang booking counters sa T1 natin kesa dun sa Hanoi at mas labu-labo ang counter dun that ang mga international flights which are not of local operations are catered for by only ONE COUNTER na ang nakalagay pa INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS. at least dito sa 'tin meron pang electronic display or even a tarpauline or something to distinguish what counter you would need to go....haaay, sana nga objective yung naging survey.

Have you seen Ho Chi Minh's Airport or even Da Nang?

All the Government FACILITIES in Philippines are all
        Losers compared to other ASEAN

Vietnam is 2 times richer.. today than 10 years ago

And Philippines is being trailed by Vietnam now

its true, it is really a hell of an airport, "Ninoy Aquino Int'l Airport", Ninoy Aquino... a hero.. on the other side, worst airport. I think, the aquino adminstration has already derived pland for a rigid facelift or renovation of this airport, but for mean time, please work on the other problems especially safety of the passenger and cleanliness of its facility.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was again voted as the worst airport in the world according to the latest survey poll published in the Travel Website. This is two in a row. I agree to the survey polls result. Though I am a true and a full blooded Filipino and still proud of being one because I knew where Filipinos came from, but ashamed of the kind of airport we have. Where does our airport taxes go? The survey result reflects the kind of airport management we have and the kind of National Government our country has right now. No matter how we criticized past Philippine Presidents and their administration and no matter how we like the present, it is still the results that will tell us which is better. My country man, results won't lie. I hope all of us will be awaken by these truth. Remember, "a wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows the public opinion. Enough is enough. Be wise!!!
