DUMAGUETE CITY (PNA) - Several schools in the first congressional district of Negros Oriental are holding classes in tents and makeshift classrooms after their school buildings were damaged by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake last Feb. 6.R117 million from the Quick Response Fund (QRF) was allocated for the construction and repair of school buildings particularly in the first congressional district in Negros Oriental. Negros Oriental Assistant Division Superintendent Dexter Aguilar said they are continuously monitoring all schools that are holding classes in makeshift classrooms, especially with the onset of the rainy season. Aguilar said the entire Danao Elementary School in the municipality of Bindoy was already abandoned after huge cracks were seen in the area. The buildings were also declared dangerous because of the visible cracks, he said. Yap has identified a one-hectare lot for the construction of a new school building for the Danao Elementary School.
