NYC OKs restaurant meal for champion dog

NEW YORK (AP) — The winning dog at New York City's Westminster Dog Show will have his day — or his steak — after all.

The city Health Department says it will grant a one-day waiver of its rule against pets in restaurants.

This year's winner, Malachy the Pekingese, enjoyed the traditional victory meal at Sardi's in the theater district on Wednesday. He had his favorite chicken and rice instead of steak.

Malachy was served in a private room away from other diners. But the New York Post reported Thursday that the Health Department would force future winners to make do with a doggie bag instead. Health Department spokesman John Kelly says that it won't.

Kelly said Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley will grant a one-day waiver to Sardi's for next year's champion.

did you see when he bit the judges hand when he was getting his trophy? I would have dropped kicked him off the stage ! I guess he was not judged for his niceness ..
Despite their popularity with the public, no Lab has ever won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, and the show has been going on for 135 years.
They are like the Chicago Cubs .. loved by many and you know the rest of the story.

I have two BIG dogs and one little one - and I know, they are all dogs insideg. My little dog is equally as fierce as the big ones, and she loves chasing critters, digging holes and chomping bones. There were some excellent dogs in that class, but this little guy won his breed and group at Westminster two times in a row, so he must be something special. I had a soft spot for the Doberman myself, but, last time I looked I'm not qualified as a dog show judge, so I certainly can't second guess the choice.

The Dalmatian should have won, not the fuzzy rat dog.
