Octavia Spencer has joked she is going to work out by lifting her SAG Award.
The actress won the best supporting actress prize for her role in The Help at last night’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.
She was thrilled with the accolade and spoke out about how women are viewed in Hollywood while at the ceremony. Octavia is known for her rotund figure and thinks females could do well by learning from her.
“Women would be much happier if they ate. I know I sure get a headache when I don't eat!” she told E! Online reporter Ted Casablanca.
“But, you know what, Ted? I'm just gonna lift this baby a few times to lose that little bit of weight I need to!”
The 41-year-old star believes actresses feel a huge amount of pressure to stay slim. She knows she could lose “a little round the middle” but doesn’t let anyone dictate how she should look.
“It's our society. It's a society that tells you you're no longer valuable at a certain age. Or because of your weight,” she stated.
“I feel for the overly thin women as much as I do for the overweight women. It... has to change.”
The Help dominated at last night’s ceremony in Los Angeles, also triumphing in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category. Viola Davis won the best actress gong for her work in the film, which is about the relationship between African American maids and their white employees during the 60s.
