P-Noy too old to get married, says former Archbishop Oscar Cruz

(SPOT.ph) Citing statistics from church courts, former Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz said President Noynoy Aquino, 51, may be too old to tie the knot, reports ABS-CBN News.

Cruz said "marriage is blending" for those 40 years old and above. "Two in one. Somebody who's (40 or older) cannot blend anymore," he told ANC's Headstart yesterday. He said statistics from church courts also showed that marriage isn't for those 20 years old and below. "Marriage is a continuity. It's a permanence and they easily change. It doesn't suit their age."

However, Cruz said there could be exceptions. He added that the statistics are different for those who tie the knot for the second time.

Asked if Aquino would be a better President if he were married, Cruz said, "That I don't know."

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Cruz's comments are "increasingly becoming personal, bizarre and unfair." ABS-CBN News quoted her: "While everyone recognizes Archbishop Cruz's credentials as a Canon lawyer, to the best of my knowledge, he is not a marriage counselor. Neither does he have a personal relationship with the President as to make a deductive conclusion regarding his personal life."

According to ABS-CBN News, Cruz handles the Catholic Church's court of marriage cases and court of appeals.

why does the church have its hand in everything!!! the church is almost as bad as all the corruption here. and that goes from top to the very bottom. the use of condoms will help with hiv prevention and the prevention of all the kids you see with no food no clothes no nothing. someday you all will understand that the church is a business and always has been. when the pope walks on water, i will listen.

Not only did Bishop Oscar Cruz say Pnoy may be too old to get married, he also called him arrogant and anti-christian. Below is a portion of the news originally posted on abs-cbn website quoting Bishop Cruz.

MANILA, Philippines - Former Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz said on Monday that President Benigno Aquino III did not know what he was talking about when he declared that he was willing to be expelled by the Catholic Church in exchange for supporting the reproductive health (RH) bill.

In an interview, Cruz said, "He fails to understand... Para siyang naghahamon. That is not the way of the wise and prudent.”

The church leader believes this is not something that Aquino’s late mother, Cory, will be proud of.

"Ang nanay niya, bibi----an ng karangalan sana na papal award. Here comes the son who is anti-Christian. He's practically saying let’s see who wins,” Cruz said.

“It’s childish. If you’re a leader, you win people, not alienate them. He's crossing thin ice…irresponsible. He has a sense of omnipotence, arrogance."

Cruz believes that the RH bill will become law in a matter of time, and this will be a linchpin for similar laws to be implemented.

"What’s to stop other bills like divorce and same-sex marriage? These are just introductory remarks," he said.

He said that even if the proponents of the bill say it is not espousing abortion, it can introduce abortion, which is ground for excommunication.

"The church doesn’t take abortion lightly. It is not a small thing. There are 2 ways for someone to be excommunicated. Abortion or harming the pope. But just in case the President signs the bill into law...he will not be excommunicated. Unless, if the church proves that he has an indirect hand on abortions, meaning because of his approval of the bill and abortions happen, then he becomes guilty,” Cruz warned.

"He is indirectly irresponsible. The church will call for a meeting with the theologians, moralists, canonists and philosophers, experts in church disciplines. Already 4 bishops expressed their concerns,” he said. “If they find him guilty, then he will be excommunicated.”

Cruz believes that the statement must have come not from the President himself but his “cohorts.”

"That didn’t come from him... He is not known for his wisdom. Malaki ang lobby money for contraceptives,” Cruz claimed.

Whatever happened to the old adage "Life begins at 40". But 'know what? I wouldn't be surprised at all to discover that Arch. Cruz is gay. I just cannot imagine a man discussing another man's marrying prospects openly on national TV. Very gay movie scribe ang dating niya! LOL

Slowly I start hating this kind of church. The Catholic Church and their representatives fear to loose influence over the society and that people wake up. They are against all what may cut their influence over the folks and they fear to loose power, e. g. RH bill.
They talk about problems they don't have, e.g. poverty, fighting for their daily bread.
Ask them if they really know what people in squatter areas turns around them and if they invite in person a poor family daily. I bet they don't do.
They live like a maggot in the flab.
And now an old retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz declares people above 40 should not marry, or like him, cannot tie the knot.
This archbishop may have bad experiences with women; he never could tie the knot. Is he envious?
This is a defamation of the whole population + 40 of the Philippines and he should excuse himself for this snoot nosed statement.

That's the most ridiculous marriage advice I've ever heard. It's like if you reach 40, one has no right to have a partner in life and a family anymore. 40 and above is a good age for marriage, the time that a man is already mentally and emotionally matured to face the trials of a married life. And usually at that time, a responsible person may already have a career and financial stability.

And another ridiculous thing is, they are not in favor of marrying at that age (40 & above) wherein a person is already responsible enough to handle a family, and they are against the RH bill that is inclined to responsible parenthood. It clearly shows that the bishops are more in favor of irresponsible people who just keep on making babies

I don't know what happening to our priest in the Philippines. They interfere too much. Hanep talaga! They don't know saan sila dapat lulugar.

There should be a separation of state and church. And you Arch Cruz have no rights to comment on others personal life. You are not a respectable one.You talk to much on everything.Your too much.Maybe because you're retired and don't have much things to do.Lock yourself in your room and mind your own business....

IF YOU, CRUZ (CAN'T DARE CALLING YOU FATHER) HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT A PERSON, THEN JUST SHUT UP!... MAYBE, JUST MAYBE YOU HAVEN'T LEARNED ANYTHING FROM YOUR PRIESTHOOD!!
    • Roel  •  1 year 1 month ago
I admire the late Jaime Cardinal Sin for he helped in fighting for the restoration of democracy. The church then had her holy image intact, but with Cruz's sissy and effeminate bickering the church is slowly losing its ground. What is Cruz up to a bachelor president when common good is his prime agendum? What is he against RH Bill when scores of priest sired 'unwanted children'? Cruz should rather first focus on the abuses of priests in many dioceses in the Philippines (corruption, scandals, etc.) instead of clearing the grounds in the government. Only then can we say he has all the right to condemn the evils in government if he has swept away the 'evils of the cloth' in the Catholic church.
    • A.G.L.  •  1 year 1 month ago
Pnoy maybe didn't get married because he has other priorities whilst Arch. Cruz didnt get married because he is GAY. He just proved it. tsismoso and judgmental. Its the prez choice to remain single! Lahat na lang pinakikialaman ng catholic church.
    • Glendale Abinales  •  1 year 1 month ago
I just cannot believe it, but this statement of former Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz really indicates that the Catholic Church in the Philippines is VINDICTIVE. Of course many will disagree and will say that the views of this old man is not the views of the Catholic Church in the Philippines.

It came a week after Mr. Aquino said in a Commencement Exercise that he is willing to be excommunicated by the Church in defense of the RH Bill. Truly the Damaso-like friars is still very much alive in the 21st Philippines. How pathetic this old gay of a priest is.

Mr. Cruz, I don't think you are still worthy of that priestly habit of yours. If you will do a Judas Iscariot act, many in the Philippines will rejoice, but be sure I am in the front seat. Anyway you are old, silly, absurd, dumb. preposterous, misleading, a gay wolf in sheep's clothing, the incarnation of evil, Mephistopheles, Beelzebub, Baal, Lucifer, out of topic, intrigero, paki-alamero, malay natin sya yun me hawak ng jueteng. Jaws ko please do the Judas Iscariot act, find a sturdy branch of a strong tree. You will not be missed!
    • MIRBAT  •  1 year 1 month ago
Jorvinjus, you are absolutely right in what you say - the church is afraid of losing their influence over the people. A Filipino told me some years ago, "You never see a thin policeman or a thin priest". I've never seen a priest walking around my town let alone a squatter area talking to the public; it seems to me that they are only interested in two things, mass and meals. How could that man say the president is too old to get married. That is absolutely brazen cheek. The church wants to stay out of politics and do what it thinks it's good at, though don't ask me what that is. If the catholic church used some of its enormous wealth to elleviate poverty, then maybe people would pay more attention to it. Regarding birth control, they are fighting a losing battle, they just don't know it.
