    Pacquiao-Bradley fight in the works

MANILA, Philippines - Bob Arum is expected to announce Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley in a couple of days, perhaps Tuesday right after the Super Bowl.

The Top Rank chief was scheduled to sit down with Bradley’s manager, Cameron Dunkin, and Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz, in San Antonio yesterday.

Pacquiao, who’s in the Philippines, is being briefed of the development, according to sports analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz who’s in San Antonio covering the Nonito Donaire fight.

“We will sit down and try to thresh everything out and then Manny will be contacted in the Philippines and hopefully we will be able to make an announcement on Tuesday,” Arum said.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat Pacquiao to the draw when he announced the other day, the day he was granted by the NSAC his license, his June 9 showdown with Miguel Cotto.

Pacquiao wanted Cotto as well. But problems with the weight stood in the way, and the Puerto Rican said he can’t drop down to 147 just to earn a rematch with Pacquiao.

So, Cotto went to Mayweather, who said he’d fight the reigning WBA light-middleweight champion at the limit of 154 lb, nothing more, nothing less.

It wasn’t a touch choice for Cotto, who will reportedly get 35 percent of the revenue, and possibly a total package of $30 million once everything comes in.

Arum said everybody has to move on after negotiations for Pacquiao vs Mayweather bogged down for the third time in as many years.

He said while Pacquiao and Mayweather are working on their respective fights, it’s still possible for the superfight to happen in November.

Arum is also putting up Juan Manuel Marquez vs Lamont Peterson in July, and whoever wins that fight may end up facing the winner between Pacquiao and Bradley later this year.

Mayweather offered Pacquiao $40 million with no share from the pay-per-view sales while Pacquiao offered Mayweather $50 million guaranteed, with the winner getting 55 percent of the revenues.

Nothing came out of both offers because Mayweather said he deserves more than what’s being offered to him, and called Pacquiao a “$10 million fighter” who should be happy with $40 million.

“It’s really bizarre, it’s really sad because it’s making a circus of boxing. It’s obvious to anybody who has looked at this – the fight isn’t happening because of Mayweather.

“For two years one thing was in stone – that was a 50-50 deal and now Mayweather has departed from it and that’s ridiculous. Hopefully when our fight is set in June, his fight is now set for May, we will sit down sensibly without a lot of pressure and plan a fight if both (Pacquiao and Mayweather) are successful for November, hopefully,” Arum added.

The problem here is if Mayweather beats Cotto, he becomes the new light-middleweight champion, and he might call on Pacquiao to fight him at 154 lb.

Pacquiao said he’d never fight any higher than 147. So, here’s just another reason why the superfight won’t happen – in November. - By Abac Cordero (Philstar News Service, www.philstar.com)

It could have been better if Manny Pacquiao concentrated more on fighting, and not so much time on being an actor, a singer, a game show host. Guesting and a bit on movies is fine, but him spending too much time on singing and stuff is not a good sign on being a professional athlete. He even became a Congressman. But who am I to impose, it's his life.

Kalokohan.

      • Amando 3 months ago
don't underestimate bradley...pacman is not a spring chicken anymore or young anymore. he had a hard time in his last fight. bradley will make him earn his money the hard way. you gotta watch out for them young and upcoming boxers who wants to move up in the boxing ranks and for him to fight pacman is an idea situation. remember the first rocky movie?
      • planet_ur_anus 3 months ago

@angelo, trust me, bradley is a tough contender. but then again i said the same thing about hatton. but hatton was not in good hands in terms of his cornerman. floyd senior was never a good trainer!

but again, bradley is a legit challenger

Let's just give what is due to him as a filipino fighter. Up or down, he is one of our living treasure. When we grow old, we consider many things and we have to understand it. No one will be at the top forever. There is always sunset in our life. But this will prepare us for another sunrise. At 33, he can already retire, but aside from the money that he can get in his 2 or 3 more fights, he still brings glory to our country. So let's just support him or just pray for his future endeavor. He is not there anymore to entertain us, maybe he still has mission, but wether we like it or not, He will be part of the world history that the children of your children will be proud. We are fortunate that we see his actions during our time.

Pacman is already molded as a wise man.....not anymore......his power and endurance is starting to diminish.....body tear and wear is already dictating or whispering on his mind.

Bradley who? Another mediocre fight. This will be the "lowest" fight Manny will have.

    • Meljie  •  San Jose, United States  •  3 months ago
Well, isn't a 50-50 purse fair enough for both megafighters of boxing? It's not about money anymore when Pacquiao won't heed to Mayweather's offer of $40M guaranteed but without the PPV and other revenues...It's about principle already. What if Pacquiao emerges as the winner? You will have a champion with a poor purse while a loser who rakes a quarter billion dollars of revenues...Pacquiao is now offering Mayweather $50M guaranteed purse plus 55% revenues to the winner. Again, Pacquiao is offering him much..a very sensible and fair offer...Now who's ducking again? Mayweather will go downin history as the only boxer who ducked Pacquiao not once, not twice nor thrice but 4 times already....Now, let's wait for the 5th time on November and probably 6th and 7th times next year...

this running around the bush would simply be ended by either guy to give in and make sense with the fight to come real. the fight fans don't care regarding the money issue, we just wanted to know who the best fighter of all.
