    PH third most disaster-hit country in 2010

    (SPOT.ph) The Philippines ranked third in the list of countries most hit by natural disasters last year with a total of 14 disasters, reports ABS-CBN News. According to the report, which cited the Citizens' Disaster Response Center (CDRC), the country followed China (22 disasters) and India (16 disasters).

    If human-induced disasters in the Philippines were included, the total number would reach 202, with 239 casualties and P25 billion in damages.

    In 2009, the Philippines topped the list with 26 disasters including tropical storm Ondoy and typhoon Pepeng. Despite the decrease in disaster figures, CDRC Deputy Executive Director Carlos Padolina said, "We shouldn't be content with just a slight decrease in the number of affected population. We should strive to be taken off the list completely." He added, "We can do this by being prepared."

    The CDRC is a partner of the Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters in Belgium, which is under the World Health Organization.

        Jenelle, hate to burst your bubble but the placement of our country on the earth's crust cannot be changed. (Well, it can move, true. But only in millimeters/year on average).

        Kung sabagay, sabi naman ni Jesus e faith can move mountains. Baka islands and archipelagos din pwede siguro. Although I'm not holding my breath for anything.

        May sand sa desert. May snow sa arctic. Nasa tropics po ang Pilipinas. Nakakabilang din tayo sa mga bansang nasa tinatawag na "Ring of Fire". Talagang baba----uhin tayo. Talgang lilindol.

        No amount of prayer or any type of wishful thinking can change that.

      mabuti pa cguro magkaroon tayo ng limang presidente.

      north luzon, south luzon, mmanila, visayas and mindanao. kc di kaya ng isang presidente lang! imanage ang buong pilipinas eversince. total tayo din naman pinakamaraming congressman sa buong mundo, di tapatan din natin ng pinakamaraming presidente SA BUONG MUNDO!

        Hahaha.. i was actually thinking this before just to speed up the process and then eventually reuniting the Philippines. But I have fear n bka humiwalay na ng tuluyan ang mindana. Though its really out of the box idea.

        Actually we already had people doing this.. and they are the local governments... "supposedly" they are doing what the president has to do with these local vicinity... unfortunately... we do not know if they really are doing their job well.. And having a president in eahc of the places u mentioned... is like changin the names of congressman to president... with the full power of president.. etc.. And if we let these to happen... we are virtually shattering the Phillippines into pieces.. thereby creating hundreds of countries.. etc.. so NO!! having lots of president ina country is stupid... WHa whaat am i talking about!! God I have a nosebleed... nurse!! ;-O

        Di ka pwede mag Run kasi pag aari ng higit sa isang bansa ang Spratly kaya nga lagi may teritorial disputes eh kung sino mamahala, at wala tao don, mga nag po-police lang ng kapwa bansa...so wala ka revenues at buhis na makukuha, Mag volunteer ka nalang na taga pamahala ng Ecosystem nila don, pag tataas ang tubig akyat ka sa pinaka malaking bato at lipat ka sa ibang island na ang cyang kasama mo ay mga albatros at piking duck, wala tubig don kaya mag dala ka nang distilled/mineral water, sungka, cards at survival kit kasi di na i ri-release ng UN ang budget don dahil sa anomaly ngayon ng mga generals.....

        tama c jay..walang disaster kung ang pondo ay nilalaan sa mga drainage systems, intensive wage management, adequate supplies of calamity aids at relief goods, programs sa pag prepare kung sakaling may calamidad. maayos na kalsada, maayos na systema sa lipunan.

        Eh ang nan----ayari mga corrupt officials, prepared na prepared cla mangurakut..

        Others can keep hitting the unlike button if you "like" those corrupt officials. I'm a proud Filipino. I pay my taxes monthly, wala pa kong nilalabag na batas at higit sa lahat mahal ko ang Pilipinas. But this situation at least be minimized kung yung mga taxes na binibigay natin para sa bayan ay di napupunta sa kamay ng gahaman na opisyal. Like for example, better sewerage would minimized the effect of flood. Better police officials would minized the case of carnapping, kidnapping and other human-induced violence/disaster. Instead they keep on putting money on their fat bellies!

      Last month magbabayad ako ng BIR tax to transfer ang actual ko na bayaran is 2.8 milyon, so punta ako sa RDO for lessen my dept. walang hiya Tangina pwede daw 100,000 nalang pero 400,000 ilagay mo daw sa account na ibibigay nya for the SOP.

      PUTNG INa nyo magbabayad nalang ako ng 2.8.

      i agree. sa maraming nagsasabi dito na kulang sa discipline ang karamihan sa mga pilipino.
      sa basura pa lang.. tapun dito tapun doon... kahit sa countrysides. putol ng putol nga mga puno...

      at alang konkretong hakbang ang goberno para dito.... natatawa ako sa MMDA na nag abang sa mga stations ng lrt at naghahanap ng nagtapon nga balat ng kendi para magbayad ng 500.
      lumalabas na pera ang hinahanap nila at di ang tunay na kalinisan sa paligid

      kasi kun totoong basura ang pakay nila. dapat doon sila sa . manila sa mga daan na parang basura nalang lahat makikita... doon sila dapat manghuli.... dami sa manila. divisoria,blumetntriit,tondo. caloocan camanava.... dito ang tunay na dami nagtatapon ng basura.
      pero mas inuuna nila ang mga balat ng kendi sa station ng lrt...heheheheheeh mga mukhang pera....

      I hate to break this to you guys but the placement of the Philippine Archipelago on the earth's crust is virtually permanent and has been the same for millions of years. (Okay, it can shift by millimeters/annum but really what significant difference does that make).

      No amount of prayer or wishful thinking can change that.

      Pero nga naman, sabi kasi ni Jesus, faith can move mountains. Baka pwede rin sigurong ma-move ang landmasses at islands. Although I'm not holding my breath for anything of that sort to happen. :)

      May sand sa desert, May snow sa arctic. Nasa tropics po ang bansa natin at nakakabilang din ito sa mga bansang located sa tinatawag na "Pacific Ring of Fire". Talagang lilindol. Talagang baba----o.

      The only remedy is preparedness.

      Kung di ka naman siguro tanga na ilang dekada ng binaba----o ang lugar mo at wala ka paring maisip na paraan para maging handa, ewan.

      Hindi nyo parin maintidihan that GOD give us a freedom to choose..all of the disasters and incident happened in our life is the result of the past. Some people are hypocrite, showing in front of many that they did good things..bkit kailangan pa paalam pra marecognize ng iba? why do politician post ung name nila upon project completion for what? In the first place that's our money, tax natin yan..HYPOCRITE in the bible exist before and ngaun subrang dami na nila..and no wonder GOD punish us..our flesh is weak, we prepared temporary things rather than knowing GOD and Jesus..Nakakapanghinayang nmn that GOD give everything pro kukunti lng ung nagpapasalamat and remember him..

      My goodness! Kasalanan ba ng Presidente kung tayo'y nakaharap sa Pasipiko? Kasalanan ba ng mga politiko at tayo ay nasa 5+ degrees north of the equator? Kasalanan ba ng mga corrupt na politiko natin at tayo ay nasa isang Tropikal na bansa?? Wala silang kasalanan sa mga bagay na ito!
      Ang tanong ngayon. Ano na ba ang nagawa natin?

      100% agree ako sa "SELF DISCIPLINE" ang kulang sa atin. Kung karamihan, di man lahat eh disiplinado at responsable for sure aangat tayo. Ang problema kasi sa atin, laging umiiral yong sinasabi nating "NASA HULI ANG PAGSISISI". Alam na nga natin na isang cause ng baha ang pag tapon ng basura sa kung saan saan, ginagawa pa rin. Alam na nga natin na isang rason ng soil erosion ang pagputol ng kahoy, ginawa pa rin.

      uhhhh why is THE bible involved?? does anyone here know that these"natural disasters" are "naturally occuring" and is a "natural act of nature"? The bible is a tool that helps us morally and spiritually. What does it have to do with storms, earthquakes, tsunamis etc? A smite from the hammer of God?

      Huwag nating sirain ang kapaligiran. Huwag pabayaang putulin ang mga puno sa mga gubat at kabundukan, huwag magtapon ng basura sa mga ilog at kanal. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit tayo nagkakaroon ng baha. Kung magpapatuloy ang maling gawain, magpapatuloy din ang kalamidad dulot ng pagbaha. Tayo ang sumisira sa ating kapaligiran, tayo ang mapipinsala.

      Hep-Hep-Hep....Una sa lahat dapat tayo magkaroon ng disiplina sa ating mga sarili, itigil nyo ang paninisi sa kung cnu, im not a Pnoy fan, but kahit cnu naman maupo as president kung walang disiplina bawat-isa sa atin ay walang mn----ayari, pansinin nyo na lang ang Japan kung gaano kadisiplinado ang mga tao sa kanila as in CHAOS ang kinaharap nila, walang pagkain,tubig or kahit anu, pero nananatili silang kalmado, kahit hirap na hirap sila sa nararanasan nila nananatili silang kalmado, at hindi ng rereklamo.. Yan ang sakit ng pinoy unang una mareklamo. Kaya tignan nyo kung gaanu kasigla at kayaman ang bansa nila dahil bawat isa sa kanila ay may kusa na disiplinahin ang mga sarili..

      Sana ay iwasan na lng ang paninisi ng kung cnu-cnu dahil sa n----ayaring hirap sa ating mga pilipino walang cnu mang may gusto na makadanas nyan, its a matter of Discipline, Respect, and Support lang sa isa't-isa sa atin.

      Nasaan ang salitang lage nating pinag mamalaki sa buong MUNDO na WE ARE PROUD TO BE FILIPINO???? sana panindigan natin yan sa puso at isip at gawa, hindi yung mayaman lng sa SALITA puro yabang.

      Wag lang po maging prepared kung may disaster. Ang importante, maging prepared na pag namatay tayo, un soul natin ay saved. Yun ang importante. Hindi ka dapat matakot mamatay kug may assurance ka that your soul will be in heaven and not hell.

      Dami talagang religious zealots sa Pinas... pesteng Catholic yan... kaya mahirap pa rin itong bansa natin eh pakielamero kasi... ito naman pinoy daling ma brainwash... yan puro na lang pray.. kulang sa kilos... waiting to be rescued.... kaya daming umaabuso.. forgive this.. forgive that... ung mga corrupt di na napaparusahan... dumami pati population... Now tell me how does your religious faith helped you with this problem.. bakit despite of prayers and devotion.. eh marami tayong disasters?...
