MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE), the country's largest organization of chemical engineers, opens its 73rd National Convention today with the theme "Advancing and Harnessing Chemical Engineering for Humanity" in Surigao City.
The PIChE will exchange information and share best practices, innovative ideas, and insights on the evolving role of chemical engineering in addressing and responding to current realities and emerging issues in academe, industry, and society.
Participants will include people in the academe, representatives from government agencies, students of chemical engineering and related fields, environmental consultants, managers and contractors, environmental safety and health officers, representatives from environmental non-government organizations, business and industry representatives, and other interested individuals.
Internationally renowned speakers will grace the various plenary and technical sessions and social functions. Among the topics that will be discussed are: Directions in science and technology, Philippine mining economy, a new paradigm of academe and industry collaboration in Thailand, implementation of environmental laws, the current state of chemical engineering, directions in engineering education, Washington Accord initiatives, APEC and ASEAN Registry. The congress will be capped by a business meeting and fellowship.
