Philippines bandits kill six in revenge raid: military

Six people were shot dead by gunmen who raided a remote Philippine village Thursday in apparent retaliation for the killing of a bandit leader, the military said.

About 10 gunmen attacked several homes at a farm on the southern island of Mindanao, targeting relatives of a police aide and killing six of them, regional military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Randolph Cabangbang said.

The attack on Tininghalang village followed the killing nearby on February 11 of bandit leader Samang Andi, who was tracked down by police with the help of police aide Dencio Tabayag.

"The Tininghalang victims are relatives of Tabayag, who helped the police get Samang," the military spokesman told reporters.

A brother of the bandit chief led the attack on the village, Cabangbang added.

Police accuse the Samang gang of being behind a range of lawless activities in the area, Cabangbang said, but did not cite specific crimes.

Armed groups, including former rebels, engage in kidnapping, highway robbery, and extortion across Mindanao as the security forces fight decades-old Muslim and communist insurgencies as well as Islamist militants.

What can we expect lolo, we have a resident communist sympathizer in the CHR.

"who was tracked down by police with the help of police aide Dencio Tabayag." bakit kasi pina publish ng media ang pangalan ng kanilang asset?

Haaaay, the sad fate of the irresponsible, sensationalist and ratings-hog philippine media.

media's are only after ratings... they don't even think the safety of the people involved in their news... news casters just want popularity..

The government must do something to prevent the media in exposing anything that could risk the security of anyone. Media are after ratings and money only.

Senseless muslim type of an eye for and eye judging mentality against government, as this is also the crime of insurrection!

In a civilized society you can categorize it that way. In that part of the country, power resides from the barrel of the gun. It is an endless situation that whoever you designate to find a solution-it will always end in futility because of the lack of knowledge of persons designated to handle the problem. People from Luzon are assigned to solve for problems of people in Mindanao.

I salute our soldiers for their true love for our countrymen. Self sacrificing, seldom appreciated, and at times looked down upon. Condolences to the bereaved and thank you for your sacrifices as well.

The government have all the reasons to issue shoot-to-kill order to this group because they are armed and brings threat not only to the families and relatives of the victim but also to the entire community.

I could guess kung ano sasabihin nya if he is pressed to comment, he will say " i will leave that to AFP, mas alam nila kung ano dapat gawin dyan" same as his comment on the hostage drama and calamities in the south. Pero pagdating kay corona or impeachment he cannot stop his mouth, para syang bakla na di naka-tsupa!!! talak ng talak, yan ang napala ng mga bobong pilipino na bumoto kay abnoy!

Bakit nalang palaging nilalahat na "Mindanao"?! -patayan sa mindanao, kaguluhan sa Mindanao.. pwede ba Manila based media people be careful in gathering news please.

Please stop the use of the word, "Mindanao" in articles that pertain to a small skirmish of a far-off barrio. I-specify na lang kung saan nangyari. You guys should be responsible journalists. That event mentioned does not cover the whole Mindanao Island; save Davao, General Santos, South Cotabato, and others.

The worst thing that Military can do was to abandon that town after they get information from them and killed tha bandits. You should know it that retaliation to the villagers would come. You should stay on to protect the informans. I advise you guys, dont give information if they are not going to protect you.
    • Up  •  Manila, National Capital Region  •  3 months ago
Why don't you just allow those lowly people to bear arms so they can protect themselves if the military and police can not provide such kind of protection they need.
