hope Philippine goverment will invest in building its own warship, we got plenty of local company building vessel and will only need to buy armaments and modern navigation equipments to fit on the vessel. One area of shipbuilding I knew is Balamban Shipyard west fo cebu.

In WW2 Japan copied USA technology, didn't know how to properly use it, did them no real good. Granted japan has good steel, but I doubt they have the technology to build a adequate warship and definitely not a submarine, way too complex.. The armor belts, water tight bulkheads and doors, if you ever been on a US Navy ship you would know what i mean.. Just not built like a cargo ship or tug.. Japan IS NOT going to sell you their military technology either, it would all end up in China within a month. Your best bet will still be re worked fleet reserve and mothball ships from the USA, but with the constant Anti-USA going on all the time, you will probably have to make do with allowing USA to patrol coastal waters. still not a bad deal.. until you have your own..

Hey, this is great!!!! It is about time that the Philippines upgrade its fleet of ships. We have a very wide coastline which means we have more body of water to guard. Sana, dumating ang panahon na tayo na ang gumagawa ng mga barko. At least, kahit luma, the U.S. is lending a helping hand in exchange for our loyalty to the U.S.. Damuhong mga intsik kasi yan eh, China is proving to be a big bully hungry for more than what it needs and what it has. Ang laki na nga ng bansa nila, gusto pa nila ang Spratlys!!!!

my friend do you think that relying on the other is great? think about this, what is japan compare to phil we back 1950s and 60s? and what is japan compare to US on that time?

Having this ship is good. but how about the armaments in it? it will be useless if they will only put a .50cal MG on it.

tooo sad that until this year, Philippines has no capability of protecting it self, where you can hear millions and millions of money are gone every year, gone by the wind, asking help from other nation is non sense idea, let the nation super whenever there is aggression so the corrupt people understand what they have done in their country.

Just one one surface to surface missile and this "Cutter" will be cut into pieces. This is a joke. Why not give us a destroyer. Or maybe, an aircraft carrier - the problem is we also do not have modern and advance planes. There are are trainer planes - which are dangerous to fly. OH MY!! where are we going?

it would be better if we can have the F-16 jet fighters, naval and aircraft capability will be a good combination in war...

An old one, even paid, but at least the move to define national interest is on the list as a national priority. We respect our friends, but we also need to strengthen our security. It is ok if we dont arm ourselves. Afterall our neighbors are our friends. But as what was said before, national security is now in the nation's list: our neighbors can understand it for they are also doing the same just for a balance and not conflict. The ship, even viewed as weak one but at least a move was done. We dont have our own investment of equipment, not even to extract minerals, refine materials and manufacture equipments for our own use. Some viewed that we should make our own: yes we will as long as we have the capability to make. But to do the same is to study from them who have it full, and thereafter make our own designs. We have more steps and period of development to take to get par with out neighbors. We are weak and we need to be strong. As we earnestly respect our neighbors, we also need it from them. What we can do is to respecfully inform our neighbors that what they have seen is not for purposes of conflict but for regular national security exercise, a nation regularly does. The nations of the world are doing it not for conflict but regular security activity. But everyone is entitled to his/her ideas. We respect such, and proceeded with cautions, controls and measures.

I hope they will retain the CIWS. unlike the first cutter class, they removed it.

I hope the US won't milk us for parts and maintenance. This is really more of a help to their failing economy than to our armed forces.
