The award-winning shirt by Filipino designer Robin Tomas was launched at Bloomingdale's New York on March 19 (US time), according to the Supima blog.

The piece, a "V-neck tee in layered tonal Supima cotton knit," won the Best Reinvention of the Men's T-shirt award at the Supima Design Competition in New York last year. He was one of the six finalists in the competition.

According to the Supima blog, Tomas previously worked as a menswear designer at the Gap, Tommy Hilfiger and J. Crew.  He graduated from Parsons School of Design, and interned at Valentino and Anna Sui. In the Philippines, he launched the couture label Tomas and showed his women's wear collection during Fashion Week in 2009.

Tomas is the son of actress Tessie Tomas.

@hearthrob - You just don't get it, do you? Supima, founded in 1954, which is the promotional organization of the American Pima cotton growers, launched an international "Best Reinvention of the Men's T-shirt award at the Supima Design Competition in New York last year". From entries all over the world, Robin ended as one of the top six finalists and eventually became the Grand Winner. You don't think that's big? Do you know that it is more difficult to reinvent something that is already considered perfect as it is like the classic men's T-shirt? (Wrong spelling ang avatar name mo. 'Should be double T.)

Why is it that talented people like this guy has to be recognized by people from other countries? In short, why does it take foreigners to recognize the talent and potentials of Pinoys?! This is the reason why there is brain drain here in our country. Our talented countrymen have to go abroad for their talents and achievements to be noticed or recognized. If this will not change, then sadly, wala ng matitirang talented Pinoys in our poor Philippines. So sad...

hey lady, "...Filipinos excel on their CRAFT..." not "CROP" ...come on, that's so embarrassing...and I'm sure that's not a typographical error.

        FYI, I'm in 4th grade...9 years old.

@ Joni Kay Mendoza you don't need to embarrass Maria Victoria. You can at least correct her in a nice way rather than insult her.

    • SEPARATION OF INK CULT AN ...  •  1 year 2 months ago
quite ironic that filipinoes tend to do better and tend to excel once they are out of the philippines.

but still it is not something that most pinoys can relate about since this tomas guy is a son of a very rich family and is brought up with nothing but the best and went to the best schools so this success is just expected for people like him. the filipinos would want to hear is stories of success from middle class societies and not this.

well at least this is better than that g@y lingot guy who talks thrash in his blog
