Maps, video recording, a new Facebook feature and support for Apple Macs are added to the PlayStation Vita on the eve of its general release in North America and European debut on February 22.
That extra piece of Facebook integration means that players can simultaneously publish their game ratings to the PlayStation Store and to their Facebook feeds.
And a spruced-up Discoveries component sees each Vita keep a look out for fellow handhelds when it's on the move, giving owners an idea of who else is in their area and the ability to connect with them if so desired.
That's something in common with the Nintendo 3DS, which uses Nintendo's StreetPass system to encourage
fans to take their gadgets out and about.
The enhancements come by way of a downloadable update that kicks in once owners connect to the PlayStation Network.
Many of those with Japanese Vitas (available since December 17) or North American models found in the First Edition Bundle (since February 15) will have already received an earlier update which included those things -- early adopters are instead reporting faster loading times for apps and possible battery life benefits.
