    Republic Day Of Guyana Today

MANILA, Philippines - Today is the Republic Day of Guyana. Also known as Mashramani, Guyanese observe this holiday mostly in Georgetown, the country's capital, with festive and colorful parades, floats, street dancing with lively costumes, masquerade parties, and games.

Located on the northern coast of South America, Guyana is bounded on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the east by Suriname, on the south by Brazil, and on the west by Brazil and Venezuela. It is one of the four non-Spanish-speaking territories on the continent, along with the countries of Brazil (Portuguese), Suriname (Dutch), and French Guiana (French). Its official language is English.

Geographically, Guyana is a South American nation, but most of its culture, history, and economic characteristics mirror those of the islands of the West Indies. Guyana was not settled by the Spanish and Portuguese. It was originally a Dutch colony that came under British control in the early 18th century. The country became a republic on February 23, 1970.

The economy of Guyana is governed by agriculture, gold, and bauxite mining, timber, shrimp fishing, and minerals. The production of sugar contributes around 28% of the country's export earnings and is largely run by the company Guysuco.

We greet the people and government of Guyana led by Their Excellencies, President Donald Ramotar and Prime Minister Sam Hinds, on the occasion of its Republic Day. We wish them all the best and success in all their endeavors. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!
