Taiwan Quanta's Q3 net beats forecasts

TAIPEI, Oct 30 - Quanta Computer <2382.TW>, the world's No. 1 contract laptop PC maker, reported market-beating third-quarter earnings on Friday, underscoring a recovery in the sector and boding well for clients such as HP <HPQ.N>.

The company said it made a net profit of T$6.113 billion in the third quarter, surpassing market expectations for a T$5.25 billion net profit, according to a poll of 19 analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Quanta made a net profit of T$7.2 billion during the same period a year ago.

Coupled with smaller rival Compal <2324.TW>, the two firms together manufacture more than half of all the world's laptop PCs, supplying to top global brands such as HP <HPQ.N>, Dell <DELL.O> and Lenovo <0992.HK>.
