The San Beda College of Law has condemned the violence supposedly employed by a fraternity that led to the recent death of its freshman law student.
“We condemn the system of brotherhood that employs violence, intimidation, intentional force, or reckless imprudence as part of any of its ceremonies or practices. Consequently, the school does not recognize their existence,” the college administration said in a statement Wednesday.
Marvin Reglos, 25, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital Sunday night after sustaining injuries in an alleged hazing incident. The victim was identified only on Tuesday morning by his relatives, an ABS-CBN report said.
“The San Beda College of Law condemns this unlawful and dreadful act of violence. We grieve over a life put to waste,” the statement said.
According to the report, Reglos sustained severe bruises on several parts of his body. He supposedly sustained the bruises during his initiation rites in the unidentified fraternity.
The report added that two suspects were arrested on the same night the victim was rushed to the hospital. Authorities have filed murder and hazing charges against alleged fraternity members Erick Castillo and Bodjie Yap, who were arrested after they went back to the hospital, supposedly to check on Reglos’ condition.
The administration of the San Beda College of Law said that together with the Law Student Government, they have constituted a committee to conduct the investigation of the administrative aspect. They will likewise fully cooperate in the investigation of the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police, the statement read.
“We give our word that we will assist in attaining justice as we will exact every means necessary to appease your worn-out hearts and mind. The lion will not sleep until justice is served in its rightful form,” the San Beda admin said.
