San Beda College of Law: Frats not recognized

The San Beda College of Law has condemned the violence supposedly employed by a fraternity that led to the recent death of its freshman law student.

“We condemn the system of brotherhood that employs violence, intimidation, intentional force, or reckless imprudence as part of any of its ceremonies or practices. Consequently, the school does not recognize their existence,” the college administration said in a statement Wednesday.

Marvin Reglos, 25, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital Sunday night after sustaining injuries in an alleged hazing incident. The victim was identified only on Tuesday morning by his relatives, an ABS-CBN report said.

“The San Beda College of Law condemns this unlawful and dreadful act of violence. We grieve over a life put to waste,” the statement said.

According to the report, Reglos sustained severe bruises on several parts of his body. He supposedly sustained the bruises during his initiation rites in the unidentified fraternity.

The report added that two suspects were arrested on the same night the victim was rushed to the hospital. Authorities have filed murder and hazing charges against alleged fraternity members Erick Castillo and Bodjie Yap, who were arrested after they went back to the hospital, supposedly to check on Reglos’ condition.

The administration of the San Beda College of Law said that together with the Law Student Government, they have constituted a committee to conduct the investigation of the administrative aspect. They will likewise fully cooperate in the investigation of the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police, the statement read.

“We give our word that we will assist in attaining justice as we will exact every means necessary to appease your worn-out hearts and mind. The lion will not sleep until justice is served in its rightful form,” the San Beda admin said.

this guy was 25 and a freshman in Law School, which would largely suggest that this is already his second degree. all his own and his parent;s hard work get put into waste just by joining. in other news sheets, Police says the evidences are strong to who are involved on the hazing. tons of text where sent to the suspects not to say anything who are involved. idiots.
      • Just a thought 3 months ago
Wish there were a group of people who would eradicate this kind of silliness (if it was possible). Nonsense fraternity!
    • simple life  •  3 months ago

This is a call to the DEPED or Department of Education, just like the anti- bullying law they made. DEPED must and should do something to abolish Fraternity.

it is the same thing in the US where majority joins secret societies like skull and bones as well free masonry in order to get at the top of the game. they sold their souls to the devil for fame and fortune at the expense of their souls. i wouldn't be surprised if the illuminati and those new world order freaks are running the government from behind. open your eyes, people these are the all tell tale signs that they are preparing us for the luciferian ideology!. while there is still time left, repent and accept Christ in your life. if you have doubts whether the illuminati exists at all. look at you tube and educate yourselves. wake up my dear country men and women! reject the satanic new world order, Jesys is the wau, the truth and the life!

@maria palafox...next time relax, you've misspelled Jesus' name and the "way" at the end of your reply..but i agree on what you said.

      • cUrsEd mAcHinE 3 months ago

Seryoso... FRATERNITY= INSECURITY. Opinion ko lang. Sorry if I have offended anyone.
    • bossandresbonifacio  •  3 months ago
"the school does not recognize its existence" means it's turning a blind eye of fraterneties in their campus but really are happening under their noses..it's the proverbial "washing of hands". If San beda is serious abt ridding these gangs, they should act and not just talk..talking will not solve this crime.

Violence begets violence. If you start up in an organization through violence....violence will be a never-ending activity. Wag magpaka-tanga. Join worthwhile clubs instead. San Beda has the martial arts clubs, music clubs, and other extra-curricular activities that promote camaraderie and respect among peers.

Most of the schools have FRATERNITY and SORORITY, when i was in college I have a friend who suffered violence from them. It's true, before you became a member of that GANG or whatever you call that group you will suffer pain first! It's nonsense! Schools should not allowed that kind of GANG it will just ruin the future of every student that will dies because of that initiation. Honestly, most of the member of that Sila yong mga Siga sa campus at Mayabang.

Fraternities. Dont get how people would join these. They make me sick. Most of them at least (since i dont know all the fraternities in the world but they generally give bad impressions). Only stupid people will join them.
    • LykaC  •  Manila, National Capital Region  •  3 months ago

First of all condolence to the family of these Law Student.

The ritual most people connect with negative outcomes in fraternities is hazing. Hazing refers to the initiation rituals, customs or traditions new pledges must be a part of in order to join. Hazing practices have caused deaths and injuries after fraternity leaders subjected pledges to dangerous tasks like binge drinking, locking them in enclosed spaces or asking them to perform risky physical stunts. Hazing practices are not only dangerous to the individuals who must perform them, but they also compromise the reputation and integrity of the fraternity as a whole.

Another negative effect of fraternities is the social exclusivity factor. Fraternities promote an environment where nonmembers are considered outsiders. Often times, students are encouraged not to associate with other students who are not brothers or will be punished for being seen at social events outside of the fraternity. This kind of exclusivity is counterproductive to what a college social environment should be: tolerant, diverse and dynamic.

In my opinion and own experience. I was once became a President of a "Fraternity" I was young at that time. Initiation was exciting, we did not think of the risk and we were not aware of the consequences if something goes wrong during hazing.

Mag tataka ka nalang yung iba eh they are not even known. For me this is another problem, yes a problem that is very difficult to solve. (It will be solve) For me everyone and every community has to participate even the Government to stop this. Lecturers at school should be eduated at this so they can pass that to students. Government should pay for the requirements needed for teacher for them to perform the task. Extra security also is needed sa mga schools.

      Always,
      TNCseven

May be its me.... or possible the numbers of incident already reported through out the years...
but I already feel no pity for the dude... simple because...
      1. like I said... "numbers of incident already reported"
      2. yes its peer pressure... but an individual is not forced into joining...

if you wana bully others or get rich quick... GO LEGIT !!! go join the PNP or enter politics
in this way, you are rest assured people will continue to kiss your ass in a long term basis...
