Sonny Bill Williams was reported on Sunday to be on the verge of dumping the rugby union world champion All Blacks in favour of a lucrative contract in Japan before returning to rugby league in Australia.
The New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) would only confirm Williams would hold a media conference on Monday with his rugby union mentor Wayne Smith at his side.
League convert Williams has been the centre of speculation for months about his playing future after signing only a one-year deal with the NZRU following the All Blacks 8-7 victory over France in the World Cup final last October.
