What color defines you?

It is said that you are what you spend your time on.  For those who work, time is mostly spent on the job whether it’s inside a cold office or in the hot outdoors, in a dusty warehouse or a vibrant shopping mall. Work, in whatever field, is worth celebrating.  There is dignity in labor no matter how menial a job is perceived to be, no matter the color of the uniform one needs to wear.

There are certain jobs that require uniforms of vivid colors. These colors not only give the workers a sense of identity but they can also be a source of pride.  It gives the wearer a sense of belongingness not only to a company but to a field of work in general thereby connecting them to the world at large, a world that recognizes the hard work exerted by these color wearers day by day.

Mang Jun is a security guard.  He wears a dark navy blue uniform whenever he is on duty.  He is proud of his job because whenever he is around, the people around him feel that they are safer.   Jennylyn is a young Red Cross volunteer stationed at the MRT-Magallanes station. She asks for spare coins as donation so that Red Cross can fund their projects in order to save more lives.  Celso has been a fireman for ten years and he takes pride in what he’s doing.  For him, being a fireman is not merely a job but it is a calling.

Mang Jun, Jennylyn, and Celso are proud of their jobs.  And because they wear a uniform when they’re working, they need to feel confident that they’re wearing it the best way they could:  the color should be bright and not faded and they should look impeccable.

So, the next time you pass by people who proudly wear their color to work, give them a warm smile, a nod.  Recognize their perseverance, celebrate their hard work.  Be one with their struggles, help them wear their color the best way they can!
