ILOILO CITY, Philippines - Western Visayas (Region 6) reigned supreme in athletics with 15 gold medals, beating powerhouse National Capital Region (NCR) and Southern Tagalog (Region 4) at the 2012 National SCUAA (State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association) Olympics Friday at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.
Connie Caselo capped the region's dominance in the sport after heaving 29.62 meters to rule the women's discus throw against closest pursuers Jeneva Calma of Central Luzon (Region 3) and Fatima Mitra of Ilocos (Region 1).
Aside from the golds, Western Visayas pocketed 13 silver and nine bronzes.
NCR reaped 11 golds, 11 silvers and 10 bronzes, while Southern Tagalog had a 9-5-7 (gold-silver-bronze) tally.
