MANILA, Philippines - The "X Factor Philippines" judges assess their performances every week and so does the public through their votes, but guess who the contestant themselves think is their biggest rival in the tilt at this point?
At a press conference tendered by ABS-CBN on Sept. 14, majority of the contestants picked two: KZ Tandingan and Jeric Medina. Even representatives from the press who acted as judges for the day, praised KZ for her stage presence and abiity to "own" any song assigned to her while Jeric got props for his matinee idol looks and "husky" singing voice. The two also have interesting back stories with KZ almost losing her voice in the past because of a throat problem even as Jeric continues his battle with the bulge.
Still, mentor Martin Nievera would want to remind people that the public should look out for "total performers" and not just singers/recording artists. Host KC Concepcion, meanwhile, wishes that when people cast their votes, they should aim at rallying behind those that are of "world class" caliber like some of their "X Factor" counterparts in other countries.
Another mentor, Gary Valenciano, took the opportunity to tell people that the mentors can only guide the public in "filtering" the contestants to come up with their top three, just a few weeks away. He said that in the end, one should back their confidence on their bets by voting for them. The singer-songwriter also noted that so far, no "trend" has emerged as far as text votes go meaning any of the contestants might still pull ahead of the rest as the finals draws near.
Mentor Pilita Corrales, whose wards have all been eliminated in the show, thinks that the show is just a stepping stone, a way for all of the industry to get their foot in the door, so to speak.
The other contestants on the show are Gabriel Maturan, Kedebon Colim, Daddy's Home, and Allen Sta. Maria. Another contestant will exit the show by tomorrow, Sept. 16. "X Factor Philippines" airs on ABS-CBN every Satudray after "MMK" and on Sundays after "Sarah G Live."
