1 dead, 3 injured in ship fire

A CARGO vessel operated by the Lorenzo Shipping Corp. en route to the port of Cebu caught fire Sunday morning in the vicinity of Talisay City waters.

The Philippine Coast Guard reported one casualty and three injuries among the 20 crew members of the MV General Romulo.

The casualty was identified as Nelson Polvorosa, 62 years old and the chief engineer of the vessel. Reports said the retrieval operation is still ongoing.

The three crew members who suffered burn injuries were brought to the shores of Talisay City about 9:50 a.m.

The ship captain declared abandon ship around 10 a.m.
