1 dead, 9 injured after truck hits queue of residents getting ‘ayuda’ in Bulacan

An out-of-control truck whose driver had a heart attack hit several people who were waiting for their ayuda (“cash handout”) in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

At least one person died while nine were injured when the government-owned truck ran over several people at about 7:40am outside San Jose del Monte City Hall. Truck driver Herminio Gerona, 57, was brought to a hospital for treatment, but he died from the heart attack. The police said Gerona had a history of heart disease.

Five people were brought to a hospital while four who had minor injuries were given first aid at the site of the crash. The local government promised that it would pay for the treatment of those injured from the accident.
