1 dead due to flooding in Metro Cebu

A MAN was killed after he got swept by flashfloods brought by sudden heavy rains that hit Cebu City and other areas in Metro Cebu on Thursday night, August 4, 2022.

According to a report provided by the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the incident occured at the Kinalumsan River in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City at 8:35 p.m.

Emergency responders in Cebu City said the man’s body was eventually recovered at the F. Vestil Bridge in Sitio Lawis, Mambaling at 9 p.m.

They have yet to determine the victim’s identity as of this writing Thursday night.

Aside from Cebu City, several areas in Metro Cebu also experienced heavy flooding.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned that the intermittent weather being experienced in Cebu may persist until the morning of Friday, August 5, 2022.

Pagasa Visayas weather bureau chief Al Quiblat told SunStar Cebu that the heavy downpour is brought by a low-pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon.

The LPA is currently located 175 kilometers east of Legazpi, Albay. (BBT, CLC, IRT)
