1 fire truck per cemetery; fire station on red alert status

THE Cebu City Fire Office (CCFO) has ordered all its substations to deploy at least one fire truck to every cemetery in the city, as it placed all its units under red alert status from October 29 to November 2, 2022.

Cebu City has five major public cemeteries -- Carreta, Calamba, Pardo, Talamban and Barrio Luz -- and several other private ones.

Fire Officer 2 Wendell Villanueva, CCFO spokesperson, said each cemetery in the city needs to have a fire truck on standby so they respond immediately to emergencies.

He said they inspected the cemeteries in the city on Thursday, October 27, to identify the major problems that need to be addressed, such as power connections.

Villanueva said the CCFO has to ensure that people who will be visiting the graves of their loved ones this Kalagkalag are safe.

He added that based on their inspection Thursday, they found no problems in cemeteries.

"Sa among pag inspeksiyon, walay nakita nga problema. OK ra man ang tanang mga sam-ang labi na ang mga connections sa mga suga," Villanueva said.

Aside from CCFO personnel, there will also be fire volunteers and barangay officials who will be helping ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration of the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days on November 1 and 2, respectively. (BBT/LMY)
