A NISSAN Navarra pick-up was involved in a rear-end collision with a 10-wheeler truck on the national highway in Purok Simeon, Barangay Dakit in Bogo City, Cebu on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022.

Pick-up driver Jose Ian Rivera Ho, a resident of Barangay Lourdes in the city, was rescued by members of the Bogo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office after he was trapped inside his vehicle.

They rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared out of danger.

The truck driver, Junssing Son Saraga, a resident of Poblacion Cawayan, Masbate Province, was unhurt.

According to Staff Sergeant Ritchie Comendador, traffic investigator of the Bogo City Police Station, the accident happened around 1:30 a.m.

He said Saraga was driving to San Remigio from Cebu City when he suddenly stopped in the middle of the road to talk to a driver of another vehicle in the opposite lane.

Ho, who was driving behind Saraga, couldn’t brake on time and collided with the back of the truck.

Comendador said Saraga shouldn’t have stopped in the middle of the road, but Ho’s pick-up shouldn’t have been so close to the back of the truck, which led him to believe Ho may have been driving fast.

Saraga is currently in police custody and may face charges on Monday, Sept. 5.
