CEBU is like home to us, it’s the place where we met, it’s where Zowie’s family is from, and it’s where many of our supporters live. For these reasons, we always make sure to come back to Cebu whenever we’re in the Philippines.
As we count down to our next return, we’re looking forward to exploring more of this beautiful province and going back to some of our favorite Cebu tourist spots. Here are the top 10 things we can’t wait to do when we come back to Cebu.
1. Food trip
Home is where the food is! After so many months away, the first thing we’re going to do is fill up on all our street food favorites at Sugbo Mercado, lechon from Belly Buster and Pungko Pungko at Fuente. There’s nothing better than a Cebu food trip!'
2. Swim with Sardines
The Moalboal Sardine Run is one of our favorite activities in Cebu. It’s like a magic light display underwater, plus it’s free if you know where to look! If you haven’t been, we seriously recommend it.
Millions of sardines swim in the same spot, just off the shore of Moalboal, every single day. We’ve been plenty of times before, but we plan on using our new underwater camera gear to take some really amazing photos of the sardines as soon as we come back to Cebu.
3. Go to Bantayan Island
Bantayan Island has the best white sand in Cebu and the chillest vibes. We can’t wait to get back there and relax on the beach, ride our bikes down quiet provincial roads, and paddleboard along the lagoon. There’s also island hopping, snorkeling and historical sites. Bantayan Island has so much to offer and is one of our favorite beach spots in the Philippines.
4. Go to Camotes Island
Another island just off the coast of mainland Cebu is Camotes Island, or technically a group of islands. It’s a lot more low-key than Bantayan Island, but there’s plenty to see and do on Camotes. It’s home to a number of underground caves filled with crystal clear water, untouched beaches and even cliff diving. We’ve been before, but Camotes always calls us back.
5. Hike Osmeña and Casino Peaks
In our opinion, Cebu has some of the most underrated hikes in the Philippines. Many people travel to Bohol just for the famous Chocolate Hills, but did you know Cebu has a version of its own?
Osmeña Peak is the highest point on the island of Cebu and overlooks sprawling grass-covered hills and out to the Tañon Strait in the distance. Its neighboring hike, Casino Peak, is less known but another one of our favorites. Standing atop a jagged limestone ridge, you can see even more rolling hills.

A trip to Cebu wouldn’t be complete without canyoneering! Our first adventure together was canyoneering to Kawasan Falls, and it has become somewhat of a tradition of ours every time we go back to Cebu.
We also recently discovered Wonderfalls canyoneering in Alegria, and it’s another favorite activity of ours in Cebu! If you’ve done Badian canyoneering and want to try something a little different, definitely give Wonderfalls a go.
7. Explore our favorite waterfalls
Cebu is known as the island of waterfalls, and there’s nothing we love more than a good waterfall adventure. Over the years, we’ve visited Cebu’s biggest and best waterfalls, and we can’t wait to go back to all our favorites when we come home. Binalayan, Aguinid, Kabutongan, Inambakan and Cambais are just some of the ones we’re looking forward to jumping off!
Moalboal is the best place for backpacker vibes in Cebu and where we really feel at home. We spent three weeks at LRS Moalboal in 2021 and now it feels like a second home to us. There are so many awesome cafés and restaurants in town, Basdaku White Beach is a favorite spot to watch sunset, and Moalboal is so central to the best tourist spots in South Cebu.
We can’t wait to go back and spend even more time there. Plus, it’s an absolute paradise for digital nomads like ourselves with such a good community atmosphere.
9. Visit Tops
Whenever we’re in the city, we love to head up to Tops Lookout to enjoy the view of the skyline at sunset. It’s such a good spot for a cheap date night, and if you head up there early enough, you can beat the crowds and get a good table. The view of the city is hard to beat, and they serve yummy sugba!
10. Stay on Sumilon Island
Last but absolutely not least, is a stay at Bluewater Sumilon Island. South Cebu has some amazing beach resorts, but we love the privacy and facilities at Bluewater Sumilon. There’s a stunning white sandbar and crystal clear water, plus two pools, a lagoon and even baby reef sharks if the timing is right.
