14 Scripts Beat MMFF Deadline

2012 MMFF UPDATE: Fourteen entries beat the June 7 deadline as their producers officially submitted the scripts of potential movies hoping to take part in the hotly contested 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival in December. The annual film fest is now on its 38th year.

Only eight entries shall be selected by a 14-member screening committee chaired by

Dir. Josefina Faulan, MMDA AGM for Planning and

Dominic Du of Greater Manila Theater Operators Association as vice-chair. As in previous editions, the 2012 MMFF aspires to field Filipino films that promote creativity, cultural or historical value, and commercial viability.

The 14 nominees to this year's MMFF are: ''Sa 'Yong Sinapupunan'' (Thy Womb) by Centerstage Productions: Stars Nora Aunor, Bembol Roco under the direction of Brillante Mendoza.

''El Presidente'' (Scenema Concept International Inc.): Jeorge ''E.R.'' Estregan, Christine Reyes, and Nora Aunor star in historical drama on the life of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, directed by Mark Meilly.

''Alyas Ben Tumbling'' (Scenema Concept International Inc.): Newcomer Jerico Estregan partners with Camille Prats in this action film directed by Joven Tan.

''Mga Kwento Ni Lola Basyang'' (Pedrong Walang Takot, Mariang Alimango): Unitel Productions presents star-studded cast that includes Richard Gomez, Paolo Contis, Sam Concepcion, Iza Calzado, Ruffa Mae Quinto, Empress Shuck and Zsa Zsa Padilla. Directed by Mark Meilly and Chris Matinez.

Untitled (ABS-CBN Production Inc. and Viva Films): Vice Ganda and Kris Aquino team up in comedy film directed by Wenn Deramas.

''One More Try'' (ABS-CBN Productions Inc. and Viva Films): Romantic drama stars Dingdong Dantes, Zanjoe Marudo, Angel Locsin and Angelica Panganiban. Directed by Ruel S. Bayani.

''Juan de la Cruz'' (Cinemedia Films Production Inc): Coco Martin, Jake Cuenca, Albert Martinez and Maja Salvador star in drama film directed by Richard Somes.

''Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote and Me'' (Octoarts Films, M-zet Productions, Imus Productions, APT ENT. GMA Films): Big-time casting in Vic Sotto, Ramon ''Bong'' Revilla, Jr. and Judy Ann Santos in comedy-fantasy directed by Tony Y. Reyes.

''Conyo Problems'' (GMA Network Films Inc.): Aljur Abrenica, Mikael Daez, Benjamin Alves, Sollen Heussaf, Isabelle Diaz, Bianca King and Maxene Magalona topbill comedy film directed by Andoy Ranay.

''The Strangers'' (Quantum Films): Enrique Gil, Enchong Dee and Julia Montes play leads in film directed by Lawrence Fajardo.

''Death March: Zanjoe Marudo'' leads the cast of historical drama directed by Adolfo Alix.

''Tuhog'' (ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. and Quantum Films): Stars Robert Arevalo, Enchong Dee and Eugene Domingo in drama directed by Veronica B. Velasco.

''My Prince Charming'' (Deus Lux Mea Films): Mario Maurer and Iza Calzado partner in romantic drama directed by Adolfo Alix Jr.

''Shake, Rattle & Roll 14'': Long-running film franchise boasts another star-studded cast that includes Lovi Poe, Dennis Trillo, Iza Calzado, among others. Chito Roño is one of its trilogy directors.

STAR STUDDED FILMFEST: Of course, the projects listed above are to be taken in their raw sense.

In other words, their casting is tentative, which explains the repetition in the casting of certain actors.

Nora Aunor will be seen in two prestige movies, for instance: ''Thy Womb'' and ''El Presidente.'' Iza Calzado, Enchong Dee and Zanjoe Marudo are tapped in various competing films.

With a star studed line-up of films, Jesse Ejercito, head of MMFF's marketing department, foresees an even more vigorous festival this year. The filmfest committee hopes to top last year's total gross of over 600 million pesos.
